Help please! Too much Murphy's Oil Soap on my floors!
Comments (26)This isn't exactly about cleaning floors, more about keeping them nice once they ARE clean. I have dark walnut (think chocolate bars . . . ) engineered hardwood floors throughout the house, except for kitchen, baths, entry. They don't get 'dirty' per se, but, honestly, I don't think there is a person on this planet who could keep them dust-free. They get dusty in just a couple of days. Perfect solution? Roomba. He chugs all over, all by his little self. His HEPA filters catch ALL the dust. There is even noticeably less on the furniture. I guess that's because Roomba vacuums it up instead of just flinging it around everywhere the way a regular vacuum does. This is, of course, starting with a floor that's basically clean. If someone comes through and leaves a footprint, a damp cloth takes it right up. The tile is dealt with by Braava, Roomba's sister. As for the OP's question, I vote for taking up as much of the Murphy's as possible with warm water. Rinse, rinse again, then follow with the Glass Plus. Skate around on towels to wipe up the leavings....See MoreLayout help please! Am I sacrificing too much function for style?
Comments (25)So, let's say you turn the corner again with base cabs. Could the oven stack be on the end of that leg with the cooktop to the right of it or even in the corner? Is that wall 7'5" to the corner of the other cabinets or to the wall? Honestly and amazingly... every inch matters which is why it's so important to get the dimensions of the room exact on graph paper. I had lots of ideas about my kitchen that when I really got to the inches of it... couldn't make it work the way that I envisioned. I went through oh, so much graph paper. My gut feeling is that no matter if you turn the corner or not, that island is too long. And especially so if you turn the corner with cabs again, (which might be a good answer to some of your appliance placement issues.) I read that the architect thinks it's a 'cleaner' look without that, but it might be borking the functionality... hence your title, right? :) As it is drawn now, you've got a real pinch point between the end of the island where you want your stool and the end of the table and chairs by the sliding door. But, I'm going by what may be inexact drawings so I could be all wet on this....See Moreplease help. Is this too much green?
Comments (3)LOL. My husband said that he was going to have me "committed" IF I painted the kitchen ONE more time! I'm going through the same thing. I've painted the entry, dining, Family rooms, master bath...well the entire house minus 2 rooms! If you have the time, take a breather. Read some threads on paints, and look at photos of finished rooms. You may be stuck in a one tunnel vision mode. Other threads may give you ideas. I sort of panicked because the holidays are coming and my house is a mess from a recent remodel, so I went into overdrive to get the paint up. I have a feeling that I may be changing some paint... Here's what I used: Bath upstairs- some beige darker than Palace White. It's just ok. Master Bath- Saint Martin Sand. Love it. All Open: Entry, Dining- Powell Buff. Like It. Family- Victorian Garden(soothing green) with Powell Buff in the tray ceiling. Love it. I've painted my darned kitchen 9 times(counting 2 coats of primer) this week!!! I just wasn't happy with the long wall of "any" color. I finally stopped with BM Rich Cream, and part with RicHmond Grey (this one is kind of green but changes to beige with lighting). Aditionally, I have 3 green rooms and a green mudroom. OUCH. I have Oak floors, natural. I seems that the beige or browns are too much with that floor. I'm afraid of too many dark colors. I love greens but am concerned that it's too much in my situation. The scary part is that your colors seem to mimic mine. Oh, but I'm going to paint ONE room BLUE tomorrow. It will be Gray Wisp. I HAVE to....See MoreHelp Asap Please with Flooring dilemma in kitchen/kitchen fam room
Comments (8)Thank you for your candor, I appreciate it. I had maple in the kitchen when I made the decision and I am disappointed that the floor didn't come up in discussions with the designer. I wanted a wood stain v paint and was wearing horseblinders to that bc it looked fine on the maple. But, they are here and pretty and I'm hoping for the best. The cabinet picture is in the original post and the floors can be any color I want. We are down to the subfloor in the kitchen. We will do rift/quarter sawn to calm them down and I do think they look ok. (Agree with you, though, not ideal.) The pic in the post right above yours is just in a showroom where I brought my cabinet sample. So do you rec we just do a 2 1/4 red oak like the rest of the house (and color as we want). Do you have experience with a medium brown and grey that gets most of the red tone out? I really would like it not to be too dark. But ok with something like jacobean with a grey?...See Morethinkdesignlive
