Our oven is also directly across from the end of the peninsula. We have 48" of space from the face of the oven cab to the face of the peninsula. Our oven door sticks out just over 20" when open, leaving almost 28" of space. This is more than enough. But I did try to mock up 20" and that seemed a little tight. Sometimes just a few inches can make a big difference. Hope that helps.

I am beyond amazed by the wonderful (and sometimes humorous) input on this thread! Wow! (Mamarella, your house looks beautiful, by the way! I can definitely see the similarities in color, although the scope of your house is much larger from the front.) On Monday, I picked up a bunch of paint chips at the local hardware store and held them up for my husband to see. (Many of them were colors that were recommended on here...or similar!) We have decided to go with some sort of blue (probably with green-ish undertones), but we had a lot of trouble narrowing the field down to one color. I have about 8-10 swatches set aside, and I am going to look them over tomorrow with a friend who has a good eye for color. Then, I will buy a few small jars of paint and see what actually looks good when it's up! We will see if the neighbors decide to chime in this time around. :-) To answer a few questions, I live outside of Boston, and we are moving from just a few blocks away. Therefore, I already know some of the neighbors, and they feel comfortable enough telling me when they don't like something....for better or for worse! Likewise, I appreciate the honest--and varied--input on this thread. :-) What a wonderful resource! This is easy - where will you be viewing TV from most of the time? If you are adding more seating (you have only one chair) then you may need to consider another position but if viewing from your bed - yes, straight in front of it, centered. Be sure however, that you frame in the TV on that wall in some creative way. As a designer, I always make sure you do not see the TV setting against a bare wall. No matter how you hide the cords, they are viewable and unsightly when you enter the room (as drawn on your floor plan). Good luck!

Oh wow, it's really hidden! lol Your furniture plan for the porch sounds lovely and I imaging having the door tucked away adds a nice sense of privacy and security. What about removing/relocating the bushes in front of the porch? Removing them might make the space look larger and more welcoming where as now they seem to make the space small and dark. Maybe swap them for some flowerbeds. It doesn't sound like you'd want to take on awindow-to-door conversion but it would look really great if you did. You've got a lot of space from an exterior view and having the steps lead up to the door would look very welcoming. You'd also have to consider what's on the other side of the wall and how that would affect the layout of your porch furniture, too (I'm sure you've already thought of that though).
