I would say the room should fit your interests, yet allow for the dining room to just be. Examples: -reading room ... along with 2 reading chairs add a library bookshelf or small writing table - Game Room / gathering room: a large fabric round ottoman with 2 or 3 chairs around it. The ottoman is the center piece. A game board can sit on top of it. - music room. If anyone plays an instrument that would be the focal point. - arts / crafts room: a hidden organizer cabinet. Small chairs to the side.

Congratulations on your new house and have fun decorating. I believe bringing pops of color to the rooms will help a lot. A colorful throw, vibrant pillows, etc. will go a long way in warming up the area. Not sure I would have the couch hugging the wall and any rug in the room should have the furniture legs setting on it. I would definitely move any chair closer to the couch so the person sitting in it doesn't feel so isolated. We love scandanavian/mid-century furniture but it might be done to death? Who cares, if you love it then do it. I think everyone should decorate with pieces they love, not what is on trend at the moment.

A houseplant. That's what I would put there. :-) In a hanging basket, or a planter pot, or a vase on a pedestal; wouldn't matter.... With the window right there, it seems like a great spot for a humidity-loving indoor plant!

I love the reading/coffee area idea. We already have a loft for the kiddos upstairs and I also have a desk nook area which is all I need :) I’m loving the idea of a cocktail/coffee room with a low sitting table and 4 chairs with some sort of wood cabinet with built in wine rack. I need to measure to make sure I have the space first lol thank you all!
