You have a great room to work with and it's not easy making all these decisions with challenging layouts. Love seeing your progress with re-arranging. It's like fitting in puzzle pieces. It can be fun to explore options and possibilities so I hope these suggestions help you in some way. A couple of thoughts for you to consider for your room. Would the large secretary hutch fit in the little alcove where you have the green chair and end table? Or between the two windows? I can't tell the width of the spaces. Do you have a pic of the stair way wall to post so we can see that area too? OR would the secretary fit on the entry wall where the light switches. You would have to leave a few inches to reach them but perhaps it would work there too. The console table could go on the stair way wall and the lamps on it. Once again, electrical outlet would be a factor. The small table and mirror by the front door entry might fit right into the alcove too. Is there an electrical outlet to put lamps on the console table? IMHO pairs should be closer together and not split in a room. Or simply move one lamp out of the room and find another to bring in. I would try placing the white chair and the green at each end of the sofa facing the coffee table. Place the end tables at each end of the sofa. One more question for you. Is this a primary TV room? If the TV works in another room, that red chair would be delightful placed in the corner of the two windows. Find some coordinating fabrics to bring in your current color scheme. Sites like calicocorners have the collections gathered and coordinated already. Do either the green or white chairs have a matching companion some where else in the house? Switch them out to get a matching set and use those in the room. If not, use a fabric that works with both colors to unify the room. The framed print in the alcove space (right side) might work over the FP to bring color up to that area. The mirror isn't doing anything for that space. What is it reflecting? Stairs? Another option for the red chair. Pull the chair over to the sofa and face the coffee table. It looks a little lonely over there by itself. You have a large room so remember to scale and size the accessories so they don't get "lost" in the room. I struggle remembering that one sometimes. I hope you come back and post updates with your progress. Good luck on your decorating. You are doing well with your plan of getting your layout first. Then it's easier to accessorize and change out the smaller items for a new look when needed. Most of all remember to have FUN!

Wow...thank you everyone!!! Just about brought tears to my eyes to get all this input. 100% agree with everyone on the clutter (but I wanted to show it how we truly live). I have had in mind to repaint something in the soft pale/blue gray like Amy from Texas mentioned. My sunroom is in a soft yellow, so something that would complement that without having to repaint the sun room also. Great idea to take everything down and look at the vintage things I have. I will take a pic of some of those items and grab some images from Pinterest. I've told my husband I'm okay with selling (we have a view of the bay, so it's hard to want to give that up), but I have to know where I'm going. I'm a homebody and don't like change! Also, my husband's tax business is in a building on this property, so it's not as easy to list without dealing with that either. Yes, we could take down those cabinets above the peninsula. The thing with the kitchen is that I could just do an update (solid granite on the counters) but the cabinets themselves are not that great of quality. Don't want to spend $4500 on countertops going over sub-par cabinets. So I remain stuck on that. And then husband doesn't want to put a big chunk of change in if we might be selling in the near-distant future. And finally, on window treatments, those dang windows are so wide, that nothing standard fits them (including standard sized rods). I was thinking of going with just some simple drapes hung really high, but always have the issue with them being too wide. Blinds would have to be done in two narrow panels on each end and one large in middle. Again, I'm just really touched you guys took the time to help me! The wall color is BM Huntington white and the trim is Simply White. I think these are all great ideas, the idea of a vertical painting is a good one, I paint all the art myself on old canvases so I just have to find the right peice. The very white painting actually had a lot of soft blues and pinks, it's just totally washed out by the window! re: the layout. I've tried to flip the side of the room the couch is on and it just doesn't look right, the chairs seem out of place on that side of the room. I agree that that I need plants next to the TV instead of the lamp. I put it there to experiment with how to add more vertical height to the room (ceilings are 9'). However, I also need more lights in the room for needlepoint and reading - it's really been hard to figure out how to add them without breaking up the sight line. Brass lamp is from Target. I also agree about the fact he fact that I have too many bins, I needed more storage and went a bit crazy at Target one day. My theory is that once the room is decorated I'll figure out which ones match best and move the rest to other areas of the house. This photo is not perfectly styled or edited, but this is what's behind the couch! I definitely need a different window treatment or nothing at all & the plant needs to be moved (there is good sun there and she's a little sick)

It probably seems odd to put back part of the wall that you removed, but that is what I propose. The new short wall would serve to: 1 - hide the refrigerator (usually the least attractive appliance - which I changed to a 30-in counter-depth one btw). The refrigerator is a little out of the way from triangle work space goal, but I think it is worth it to have a kitchen that is pretty to view from your living and dining areas. Along those lines, the refrigerator would be in a full-height and full-depth cabinet. 2- enlarge your pantry to a nice size, with pretty narrow doors that open for full access. 3 - on the living room side, give you back some needed wall space. If you keep a layout similar to what you have now, your large chair or loveseat will not overhang the wall. On the range side of the plan, you could leave the cabinet run exposed, or add a narrow wall there are well. Note that I guessed on a few dimensions, and did not have a scale handy, so I free-handed the drawing. You would want to "field-test" it for sure.
