I wish I had gone with my gut and used what we‘ve always used in the past. we went on the contractors recommendation. We used this on a newly tiled shower floor as well as the walls. I noticed a bad smell (not sewer gas) every night the contractors left. Its hard to describe. i assumed it was something in the mortar? We let this cure for 4 days. The smell was on and off and didnt have to do with a dry shower. Big thing I noticed was that the grout seemed to absorb the water. It turned from a light to a dark grey when wet. You shouldnt have to seal this Read the bag. Sealant not needed Same with our ceramic tiles our other grout does NOT turn color nor does the caulk This worried me then that the water is going through and under the tiles How would this NOT cause mildew and mold down the line? i just looked on Menards site and thought it very odd they dont gave reviews by their products. How many of us read and rely on those? I talked to a seasoned tiler now retired and working at Menards who insisted that yes, it is sealed. What i see and what Im hearing seem to be two different things This morning, 11 hours after the last shower, there was still some darkening around the drain Standing water underneath? Who knows. This shower is just over a week in use and I dont see a good outcome. I highly recommend using something else. For the floor, especially. Note in the picture the darker grout near the drain. When wet, it all turns this dark grey. My big question - why does it seem to be absorbing water if its a sealed product? And what is the ’stale’ smell that comes and goes? Asked: 2. The wiring to the original light fixture is older and does not have a ground wire. The new wiring to make the new light fixture and new switch does have a grund wire. Does this matter? Answered: 2. Doesnt matter. Just be aware that you wont have a ground even if you connect the ground wire at the switch. Of COURSE it matters! The NEC doesn't permit extending a non-grounded circuit without having run a grounding conductor back to the service grounding electrode system - either at the service or at a grounded subpanel supplying the ungrounded circuit. See 250.30(C). And even if someone were to ignore that requirement, connecting an ungrounded ground wire to ANY equipment will only ensure that a ground fault at one end of the wire would be shared by equipment connected to the other end. The light housing becomes hot, then so does the switch. Awareness is a poor insulator.

I don't have any issues doing the project management by myself, but I had secretly hoped that by hiring it done, I would be looking at a short, sweet project. That said, I've hired a GC to do jobs in the past and none impressed with their ability to coordinate trades (plus, I hated paying their markup on stuff I hustled all over town to find at the best price!). About the only time any contractor I've hired has ever shown up on time and as expected was on draw day. Not that I'm bitter. :-) I went under the house yesterday and there is absolutely no reason why a raised house with a standup crawl space *and* with services exactly where I want the new services should come in at $6500 for plumbing. A plumber charges $75/hr here. They are not supplying fixtures - just some tie in PVC - and I hardly think this job is anywhere in the ballpark of an 86 hour job for a competent plumber! Hell, I'm a crappy plumber and I could do it in less than 86 hours! Bobby99 - love that Sarah Richardson kitchen! That's basically exactly what I'm seeing in my mind's eye - an updated traditional space. Getting back to a home-y kitchen. Not so much a pseudo professional space. A kitchen where I don't have to have a microfiber rag tucked in the back of my apron or to chase off anyone who dares sully the SS appliances. I'm tired of those days. The heresy is that I might not even put in a BS as we never had one the entire time I was growing up, save the 4" piece. I'd probably put stainless behind the range because of the heat from a top venting range, but I rather liked my 4" backsplash that I installed in my last kitchen in New Orleans.

Before I would begin this job, I informed the customer that I had no way of preventing removed pool grout from falling into the pool. Since he did not want the expense to drain and refill his pool, he assured me repeatedly that he had state-of-the-art pool filtration and that the sunken grout would be no problem whatsoever. I hosed off his pool deck at completion; he made no complaints, was very pleased, and paid in full. What the hell else could I do? Write the warning in the blood of his first born male child? Print it on his forehead? I told him what would happen, he told me not to worry, it happened just as I predicted and he wants to second-guess. Arrruuuggggg!!!
