I think that is one reason that my house looks so plain, there is no door on the front of the house. I think I have the only split level with a door on the side and one in the back. I went to Home Depot and asked them to make the Spanish Moss two shades darker. You could hardly see the difference so they went what they said was 50 percent darker. It isn't enough difference for someone driving by to even notice. No the MS paint doesn't come in the strips. I brought home several paint cards and I'm not sure they go with the Spanish Moss. They are a darker green but may not actually complement it.

When you remove the shutters to paint, you'll be able to post before and after pix here on a "Poll" and have Houzzers vote on which looks best. As for paint color, you should take close up pix of the brick. Once you get one that really matches what you are seeing in person, take that to some better paint companies and see what they suggest. I think your current pinkish paint probably matches the lighter little bricks in the overall pattern. Maybe go for the darker brick color this time. Bring home sample pots of paint and big poster boards or a sheet of luan to cut up and paint your samples on. Move them around in different light and climate conditions to see what you're really getting. As for the roof/porch issue, you're talking about big bucks, and you need to get an architect involved, along with lots of quotes for the job.

Hi all- We recently purchased a 70's split level farmhouse that we fell in love with. we are looking to paint the entryway and the open concept kitchen/living/dining. Currently its ALL gray but wanted to change it up. Looking for ideas for where to add the color. for example- do we use the dark color (possibly dark green) in the entryway and keep the upstairs rooms a shade of white (not pure white). also keeping in mind the upstairs hallway leading to bedrooms needs to be painted (likely the white color) or use the green on 2 walls for living/dining? We get a lot of light during day as the windows face east/west. any advice would be helpful!!

It's hard to tell from the photo what shade of cream your house really is, it looks almost white so depending on the cream, the scheme below might work, on the sketch it's white with black trim, black windows and doors. I find the shingles a bit busy and show below the same style in shades of grey. You'd have a more modern look without the shutters but I find the shutters enlarge the windows that otherwise would look a bit lost in the space. I suggest you cut down the shrubs along the porch so that we can see the house and porch. Some flowering perennials along the house on the left would be nice as would a short boxwood hedge in front of the porch.
