Another front door color question....

Hello. I am looking to change my front door color. I an leaning towards one of the blues in the color cards shown. The ones that I like have a black dot beside them. I have been told that a black front door would also be nice, but I am just not sold on black for my front door. Please help me decide. I am also including a close up of my front door as it is painted now.

Would you also paint the garage door blue, or leave it as is? I don't see that color elsewhere on your house.

The Blue Hue Family is complementary to your brick from the Yellow-Red Hue Family.

Tulips are true bulbs and multiply by producing offsets, whereas Crocus are corms and the old corm dies each year and a new one develops on top of it. As the corm becomes larger, more flowering stems are produced, similar to Cyclamen. The species Tulips can produce large colonies from a single bulb, but if left undivided for several years, the flowers will become smaller each year. If you lift and divide them periodically, spacing much closer than 12" is feasible. They require good drainage and alkaline soil to perform best. You will probably have to dig deeper than the bulb setting depth and ammend the soil with a porous material, such as composted ground bark, for drainage and to allow for root development. If your soil is acidic, incorporation of Lime (5 lbs per 100 ft.Â²), along with 5-10-10 or 6-12-12 fertilizer into the soil would enhance performance. Unfortunately, Tulips are very attractive to squirrels, which will dig and eat or store them. Treating the bulbs with Ropel before planting helps, or use a fertilizer that incorporates Coyote urine as a repellent. I cover my bulb plantings(except Daffodils, which squirrels don't bother), with a 1" wire mesh(chicken wire), until the soil settles after a few periods of rainfall or until the bulb foliage dies down in early summer. Once the soil is compacted over the bulbs, the squirrels lose interest in them. I've not planted Tulips in my lawn, only a few thousand Crocus and Iris reticulata. Using a bulb auger and cordless drills, makes short work of an otherwise tedious and backbreaking job. :Good luck! Rb

The arched, all wood are TDF!! If money wasn't an option........;o)

A colorful door is a great idea. With the gray paint (and black shutters, If you decide to keep them) you can do almost anything with the door color. HOWEVER, don't just buy a can of paint and slap it on -- the color on the chip is going to look very different when it's up on your door. Try sample pots of several colors first, to see which looks best on your home.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody! Since it isn't my house, I don't have more photos to hand. The door was actually a brighter yellow first coat but my friend didn't love it so went softer to suit her personal tastes (me, I loved the bright sunny color it started as). It's a big house and the paint job is quite new (she's only lived there a year now and the last owners painted it just before they sold) so she won't be changing the white trim. I'll be showing her all these suggestions during the week, I think she will find it very interesting. I was actually quite intrigued by the idea of a black door, the contrast would be intense. But something in the red range sounds very viable. I didn't see the sample, but I think the realtor suggested some sort of bronze color. The white is quite white, and the brown of the siding has a fair bit of yellow in it (tbh - I think the biggest issue is that the trim doesn't really coordinate with the house paint, so getting a door to pull them both together is challenging). The house is beautiful, the location just as wonderful...I doubt selling will be a challenge, but she would like to do any simple thing she can to help it go faster when the time comes; and door color for first impressions always gets a lot of attention. When/if the door changes color I will absolutely post it here!

No, I would not paint the garage door blue. I would leave it as is. the door color would be my accent color.

Both Smoke Blue & American Anthem are from the Blue Hue Family, I’m sorry I can’t make out the other names.

I like the Blue Fjord, which is a bit darker than your favorites. I like the hues on the bottom left swatch less well than the other three (seems to have a bit less green in it; this is just my personal preference), but I think any of your other picks would look fine.

in the bottom-left picture is Dresden dream which is above Canyon blue. I am leaning towards smoke blue as my top pick and Canyon blue as my second choice. is it safe to say that black would not be a good front door color? it was not my pick but a close friends pick.

Choosing a ‘black’ or a dark near neutral from either the same Hue Family as the brick, or its complement, would be one way of creating colour harmony for your facade.

But personally, I think these colours would be shown at their best if your door was on the same plain as the whole of your front face wall & without the portico. This would allow light to bounce off the sheen of the door more dramatically, enhancing the richness of the black.

As it is, your door already appears to recede. So I think one of the blues you are considering would be more effective in being noticed in this slightly shadowed area.
