I have to agree with the realtors, and would take their advice.

Especially the black trim and handle.

I think the door blends in too much with the house, shows no personality. I'd paint it a nice bright red. Blue would do, but red would be my choice.

My realtor suggested that I paint my front door red - I wasn't crazy about that, and I can't say whether it made a difference. I did however, see that the front entrance looked especially nice after I painted it a red with the slightest "brick" to it. I put out a yellow adirondack chair, a blue planter with a red flowering plant next to it and luckily found an outdoor mat with all of those vibrant colors in it. I think if she added a few colorful elements to the front porch (with the recommended colors) the front door may not have to be painted.

I would definitely repaint, that yellow color matches nothing. I would paint the front door black to match the railings.

I don't think you mentioned the realtors' suggested colors? I would've gone with a color less related to the house color, such as a vivid cobalt blue. Lovely house.

I am not sure what color but the one it is I find blah. I would trim bake the overgrowth beside the steps get 2 nice big black metal planters with some seasonal plantings on either side in front of the side lights and maybe blue would work after looking again.

Lynette Jennings (Design TV show from awhile ago) always said that when selling paint your front door a bright yellow. I think the doors should stay yellow, but a happier yellow.

Paint it BM Caliente Red.

If black trim can't be changed definitely paint the door in high-gloss black. It will work well compositionally with the windows which read as black.

Instead of black, I would take a look at SW Urbane Bronze. I think it would still work with the black windows but be better suited to the warm color of the house and roof.

Is trim saying light? Then think of how dark, medium, light you want the door. It'll contrast with the shapes created by the trim. I wouldn't go bright... too much.

Curious minds are asking, but maybe you should hold off telling what realtor suggested - see where houzzers go first. ;-)

Are both exterior and roof a nut- amber brown? Another photo or two would help. Is front yard green? or trees....

I'm not a fan of all the white trim around the windows although I see it coordinates with other white trim on the house. I would look for a door color that blends into the house color, maybe a shade or 2 darker or lighter. The star of her entry is those beautiful windows and what looks to be a beautiful view all the way to the backyard.

Especially if the white isn't too pure white, maybe this as another thought too. A warm red for the warm brown.

Just realized - get paint store's fan of colors. See what it's called, and what they recommend for accenting.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody! Since it isn't my house, I don't have more photos to hand. The door was actually a brighter yellow first coat but my friend didn't love it so went softer to suit her personal tastes (me, I loved the bright sunny color it started as). It's a big house and the paint job is quite new (she's only lived there a year now and the last owners painted it just before they sold) so she won't be changing the white trim.

I'll be showing her all these suggestions during the week, I think she will find it very interesting. I was actually quite intrigued by the idea of a black door, the contrast would be intense. But something in the red range sounds very viable. I didn't see the sample, but I think the realtor suggested some sort of bronze color. The white is quite white, and the brown of the siding has a fair bit of yellow in it (tbh - I think the biggest issue is that the trim doesn't really coordinate with the house paint, so getting a door to pull them both together is challenging).

The house is beautiful, the location just as wonderful...I doubt selling will be a challenge, but she would like to do any simple thing she can to help it go faster when the time comes; and door color for first impressions always gets a lot of attention.

When/if the door changes color I will absolutely post it here!

Great ideas of bell's! but can look church building or commercial with the windows so large.... what about new doors somewhere between 3 and 4? with 'perfect' lines?

"The house is beautiful...the location just as wonderful..." I would be inclined to leave well enough alone, as I doubt the door color on this jewel would be a deal-breaker. I think just adding 2 tall black planters with seasonal flowers on either side of the door would be a wonderful addition.
