Thanks for the suggestions everybody! Since it isn't my house, I don't have more photos to hand. The door was actually a brighter yellow first coat but my friend didn't love it so went softer to suit her personal tastes (me, I loved the bright sunny color it started as). It's a big house and the paint job is quite new (she's only lived there a year now and the last owners painted it just before they sold) so she won't be changing the white trim. I'll be showing her all these suggestions during the week, I think she will find it very interesting. I was actually quite intrigued by the idea of a black door, the contrast would be intense. But something in the red range sounds very viable. I didn't see the sample, but I think the realtor suggested some sort of bronze color. The white is quite white, and the brown of the siding has a fair bit of yellow in it (tbh - I think the biggest issue is that the trim doesn't really coordinate with the house paint, so getting a door to pull them both together is challenging). The house is beautiful, the location just as wonderful...I doubt selling will be a challenge, but she would like to do any simple thing she can to help it go faster when the time comes; and door color for first impressions always gets a lot of attention. When/if the door changes color I will absolutely post it here!

I love red doors, but, I dont think red doors fit y our house very well. I like black doors too, but, I dont think that would look great on your house either, it would make it too dark by your doorway. I do like teal, and think the right shade of teal, could easily work.

Paint the garage door the same color as the house, and put a big planter in between the garage door and the front door. Does anyone ever sit on that bench? No? Consider replacing it with planters, or a simple low bench without a back or arm rests that won’t block the view of the front door.

Architect time. I see you have a rock outcropping on the side where you're thinking of expanding. You may want to go back to the original plans on file at City Hall to see who the architect was and if there are any interesting comments about the rocky land. You could also look into changing the garage spaces to hold three cars. In the meantime, if you want to make your entrance more visible, a simple painted or ceramic "Welcome" sign on the wall visible from the driveway would do nicely. Pruning the shrubs and trees at the right time of year could show a walkway, too.
