Last Years Planted Roses look Fabulous Now
Comments (26)There are actually 4 trellis' there with vining honeysuckle growing up them. It needs to fill in some as I only planted it last year. The trellis' are in a row touching each other but not in a straight line as I have them angled like a very wide acordion. Kate- Braveheart is not blooming yet. Will be taking pictures when it does. Its also not in this section. Last year it was in back of this shrub rose section along with afew others but I moved all those roses very early this spring to make a row of six on the other side of my front yard. Then I bought more roses from Heirloom, many of them Clements roses, and planted them were the moved ones used to be. I absolutely love Clements roses. Since you like Braveheart, you might also want to take a look at the Clements rose Scarlett Velvet. Beautiful old rose thick flowers. The color is red but different color than Braveheart. It is the last rose in the row pictured above, you can just see maybe one red bloom tumbling down at the end of the row. There are more blooms but that section actually curves so from the angle the picture was taken, that was all you could see....See MoreSome photos from the last couple days
Comments (18)fgoldberg - I got them all from different places, but Marietta Gardens has Baby Blues, Driving Me Wild, Mystical Rainbow, Seal of Approval (it seems expensive there) and Siloam David Kirchhoff. Homestead Farms has Baby Blues, Driving Me Wild, Pony and Sings the Blues. I've ordered from both and been happy with my orders. Also, if I remember correctly you live in Montgomery County - our daylily club is having a sale at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton on August 11 at 9 am (everything's $5 per double fan) and I'm going to try to divide Siloam David Kirchhoff and Sings the Blues for that sale. (Let me know if you want more info.) Juliet...See MoreLast Roses of 2010
Comments (15)Thanks, Carol! Hope you have a chance to get a handle on William Shakespeare 2000 this year, he seems to be really worth growing. On the other hand I am wondering if you can grow real gallicas where you are? They might be even more beautiful, but I guess only once blooming. pelicanhead, that is soooo... awesome that you posted a picture of your 'Wedding Cake'! Thank you very much! I am dying to hear where you did get yours from! On your photo the bloom color looks like a soft apricot/pink with some yellow petals more to the center of the bloom. Could you observe some of these yellow inner petals changing into a pale green as the flower aged like some of the pictures of HMF show? I am very relieved that you write that your band arrived in a similar condition like mine did. Since you have been able to keep yours alive and babied it even to produce three blooms in its first year, maybe mine will survive, too. Did you do anything special to pamper your band? Somehow I think I remember that you are growing your roses in Southern California, too? Is that correct or am I totally off? Here is a pic of my Wedding Cake (left side) and Lavender Crystal (on the right) taken today. They both have started to leave out. I am so excited! Comments (17)Thanks to you all! Just wanted to add that my Olivia Rose Austin did quite well last week in 100 degree temps as she's getting bigger. She's blooming in clusters at the top of three 2ft+ stems. You can only see two of the three stems in the photo below. It may look like the back cluster is a separate plant but it's from the same bush. Not sure I like this growth pattern but it's only the first year. Is anybody else's ORA growing like this? No problem after 100 degrees - I'm amazed! Ann...See Morerosecanadian
