After months of searching everywhere and finding it nowhere, my local target now has lots of Lysol Laundry Sanitizer. Of course that could just be local/regional but I figured I’d pass it on.

Zach - if that's a typical spring I'd move! sleevendog - oh, thought I remembered you're near NYC but didn't realize you had garden/farm in another location - yeah Catskills must be colder than here. Now I understand the snake concern too. edweather - it's been fairly nice (warm and overcast) for planting out, just not sunny enough to really harden off since I know those hot bright days are coming, and I'd like to control how much sun the plants get at first. Then along comes a downpour, or a night in the low 40's to wreck all the planting out plans! I'm starting Sunday. Plants have been out at night (on the nights it hasn't fallen below 45) and are inching out into the back yard (east) for more sun every day (with a few getting burnt - don't know what's up with Mark Twain, they were among the first to go out but are getting bleached and not growing as well). Yeah, it's 2 weeks past the average LFD here, should be putting out peppers by now! Next year definitely planting out early, under cover - I got my sample of cross-connectors on Tuesday, have to order them but should have them by the end of June. Was going to wait until Sept to put the plastic on. But we'll have it for next spring! Still working on building my raised beds (this photo a couple days old) and DH says he'll take a pickax to loosen the soil where the beds are going tomorrow - compacted from bulldozer. I'm going to start putting out the sprawling indeterminates and cherry toms that are hardened off along the fence where I had beans last year, and once we get some manure moved here the others are going in the middle of the tunnel with T posts, the beds (west side shown here) are getting peppers and determinate tomatoes. Today and tomorrow I'm planting beans until the Tstorms hit this afternoon. Hope everybody gets a break in the weather - Zach sounds like he sure could use it!

What a memory you have mercurygirl! “Break out the sherbet dishes and fill them with custard” Oh, if only, bragu... if I only I had a kitchen! This will be the first year I’ve not made DH’s beloved cheesecake. In the interest of ‘adding’… I see above that I abhorred chocolate pot de crème due to the grainy texture, but since then I’ve acquired a sous vide, and as Islay wisely said, no better (or easier) way to make the perfect pots de crème, even non-grainy chocolate. Here’s my recipe: Sous Vide Chocolate Pots De Crème Ingredients: 4 cups of heavy cream 1, 9.7-ounce bar of Schaeffer bittersweet chocolate (or your favorite brand) 3 t espresso powder, divided 6 T sugar plus 1 t sugar, divided 2 pinches kosher salt 8 egg yolks Directions: Heat the cream in a pan over medium-high heat until the cream around the edges of the pan just starts to bubble. Do not let the cream come to a full boil. Remove from heat. While the cream is heating, coarsely chop the chocolate. While the cream is hot, whisk in the chopped chocolate, espresso powder, sugar, kosher salt. Whisk until smooth. Whisk in egg yolks one or two at a time, whisking completely after each addition. Pour the mixture into a large measuring cup suitable for pouring. Pour 6 ounces of the cream and chocolate mixture into 8, 8-ounce mason jars, leaving about 3/4" of air space in each jar. Do not fill to the top. Screw the lids on using your fingers only until the lids are finger tight. Do not overly tighten as air needs to escape from the jars during the cooking process. Fill a large pot or a 12-quart storage container with room temperature water and secure your sous vide circulator onto the vessel. Place the jars in the pot or container. Turn the sous vide circulator on and set it to 176 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water reaches 176 degrees set the timer for one hour. The water should cover the lidded jars. When the timer goes off, turn off the circulator and remove the mason jars from the circulator with a pair of tongs. Set the jars on a dry kitchen towel and allow to cool for a few minutes and then store in the fridge for at least two hours and up to several days. Top with sweetened crème fraiche, fresh raspberries, shaved chocolate, chopped toasted almonds, or best of all, serve plain : ) I hope others will chime in and add some of their recipes to this!

I only buy organic, so haven't tried the fresh stuff they sell. I used to make my own crusts and prebake them - maybe 6"-8" diameter for ease of fitting in the freezer - but I haven't made my own in awhile now, since I can get the ones from TJ's. I've also made larger ones and prebaked as well, since we've come to prefer crisp to soft. I also sprinkle some of the shredded cheese over the crust before adding sauce or fresh tomatoes, and it seems to help keep the crust from getting too soggy. I used to make pita pizzas when our kids were young, since it was so convenient and easy to make in the toaster oven. A tip for a quick and satisfying cracker crust is Ak-Mak flatbread. It makes a good substitute for regular crusts, as long as your toppings aren't too wet. I put a bit of olive oil on them first. I used whole sheets and placed them side by side together on a parchment covered baking sheet.

LOL, morz, we used to wrap our own pork in that white freezer paper too, we always slaughtered and packaged our own, but a 300 pound hog is a lot more doable than a 1,000+ cow. (grin) cookebook, as Jack says, there is a charge for the beef and a charge for the packaging, a separate charge for the slaughter. If your price includes it all, it would be approximately the same as it is here. Average price for beef here is $2.80 a pound, plus 55 cents a pound packaging, that's $3.35 a pound. There's normally a $40 slaughter fee, which you would pay half of since you're buying a half, so that's $20.00. So, if you don't want anything extra, like jerky, the final price would be $3.35 a pound hanging weight. The hanging weight is about 75% of your finished weight, depending on how much of the liver/oxtail/soup bones/etc you get. So, if your half is 500 pounds, your finished product would be about 375 pounds, the rest is bone/gristle/waste. If you take a bunch of bones, your finished product will be higher. And here, soup bones at the store, which are absolutely picked clean, are $4.99 a pound, which I think is just nuts. KatieC, I'm surprised about the soup bones. Here the whole carcass is yours. If you want every single bone in the animal you can have it, but you have to pay the extra 55 cents a pound of bones to have it packaged. I also get all the suet, if I want. I usually don't want it because I just don't have freezer room for it. I never even thought about cubed steak, we never use that so I had forgotten. My processor also hates it, they have to run each individual steak through that machine and I suppose it would be tedious and time consuming. Annie

That's good enough reason for me.

I have a different system. I don't mix outside clothes with inside clothes. When I come home I go down to the basement laundry room, change to inside clothes and put outside clothes in the dryer. All germs get blown outside, or cooked by very hot dryer air.

I am in and out of doctors' offices and hospitals and those are prime breeding grounds for all kinds of nasties. And yep, then there's gardening - fish poo fertilizer and all! I am currently using a disinfectant usually used on floors and stuff just because.

Whatever makes us happy. As long as we feel good about our cleaning routines and stay healthy enough to be convinced we’re doing a good job, mission accomplished.

But still none available online that I could find. I tried Target.com but their site wanted me to drive 2 hours away to a store :-(

Yeah that doesn’t surprise me, didn’t know you’re that far away from one. I was just surprised that not only did they have it yesterday, but how much they had. I bought a bunch, leaving plenty on the shelves, and today was back and saw them restocking the shelf while I was there. It’d probably be pretty expensive for me to ship to you but if you’re interested let me know and I’d put some together for you.

My sister uses something similar. A commercial brand from an industrial supplier. She is a nurse, her husband a Doctor. It's concentrated and just a bit goes in the softeners slot, (I think). She thinks it helps with minor soap buildup that can irritate skin. And obviously their scrubs. Why I use vinegar.

Lysol and Clorox brands are way backed up. Maybe the they can't get the fabric for the wipes. Or even the getting the containers manufactured fast enough. Read somewhere that wipes may not be available until 2021 but who knows what to believe. No shopping near me has anything but basic Clorox. (I have a fresh 1/2 gallon but only use it outside)

Amazon has a few commercial industrial brands but I know nothing about them. Nor have I compared the ingredients. I would use it but don't need 4 gallons.

Almost time to reorder but we have to pick up DH's prescriptions at Walmart today so will check there to see if by any chance they have the Lysol brand first.

Something that really irritates me is that both Lysol & Clorox do a lot of TV ads for their products - but nobody can find them! :-\

I did see other brands. Some in one gallon orders. I.need to compare the active ingredients with my Clorox wipes. I know you can use the laundry sanitizer as a soak. 2-3 tBsp in a gallon of water. Not sure if is an irritant to hands when wet. It isn't recommended to make your own sanitizer or wipes but I sure would like to just use washable cotton rages instead of the disposables wipes. I like to use them for handles, knobs, light switches...not obsessive but randomly where soap does not make sense.

Yes! The advertising. Started seeing that a month or more ago. Not sure why they would spent so much money on ads without the product.

Sanitizer for laundry is useful when things like underpants and towels too.

I also wash all my kitchen stuff ... Dishcloths, towels, pot holders, even tablecloth and placemats with it.
