Covid humor.....
Comments (390)Could we maybe start a new thread "Covid Humor 2"? This one has so many funny things, but it's gotten so large it freezes up my computer when I try to open it. I don't know if that's a problem for anyone else, but if so, what do you think about starting a new thread instead of posting here?...See MoreI did it! I cut my own hair.
Comments (42)I used to cut my own hair. My HS grad picture is a 'selfed' haircut and its really not bad. I would cut my Mom's for her, friends. BUT, that's been a long, long time ago and my cut is the basis for my entire look ;0) I wouldn't consider attempting it myself other than nip 1/4" at the bangs maybe a week before my standing appointment. Really, two people in the last 30 years have gotten the cut right so that its 'fix it and forget it' for all day whether wind, nap, gardening, whatever I'm doing. I've stuck to them like glue. I have an appt April 8 that I don't know if I'll be able to keep. Small shop, two stylists. There is rarely more than 4 total at any one time inside even though spacious square footage. Both stylists seem to begin and complete one appointment at a time and not overlap, no cutting of one while a color is processing on a second. Each customer has their full attention until finished....See MoreAbout Covid death rate
Comments (24)Low numbers of risk affecting LARGE numbers of people, still results in large numbers of problems, even if the risk to any particular individual might vary. This is the bread and butter of public health. And risk and what one considers acceptable is an interesting concept. People parse it many ways. Lots of people do not change their behavior unless the risk is immediate and in their face, hence the reason so many people drink and smoke even though they increase the likelihood that you will have diseases down the line. They often think that whatever complications arise, they will be able to have some happy ending solution at the time. And even then, with complications, many continue to smoke and drink until it kills them. Prevention is easier and less expensive, but it seems to not be something the human race, by and large, is very good at. There are so many examples out their for social policy besides just disease control. Water pollution is another example, it is far easier to prevent water from getting polluted that to get the widely dispersed pollution out once it gets in to the water. Many of use probably owe our existence to our parent's inability to change short term behavior to avoid long term consequences. Not always a bad thing, carpe diem right? Balancing the two factors is wisdom, knowing how to balance practical present needs vs long term rewards. I spend every flu season in fear and dread of getting it, because it makes me sick for months and is a serious negative problem for my life. So covid for me is just an extension of that and I sure envy anyone who thinks they are robust enough for this to not be a problem for them. My Dad is 89 with underlying heart, lung and kidney conditions that are already slowly killing him, so covid or any other type of pneumonia, would finish him off tout suite....See MoreCovid update in your area
Comments (26)Even though masks are required everywhere and compliance is now like 100%, during the holidays you could see evidence of private parties by the number of cars parked on streets and crowds viewed through windows. I also see no more "protests" face shields of paper towns and small 2"x2" squares of plastic draped from a nose. This really slowed down after a lockdown and possibly as a result the numbers have started to come down. But I also think that when people started to see multiple people that they know get sick that behaviors truly started to change. I always view my mask as protecting the people who must work in contact with people and to reduce transmission for the most vulnerable. Hopefully these latest variants will still be controllable by the vaccines being deployed....See MoreElmer J Fudd
