AC Replacement Need Advice on TRANE
Comments (7)-On the hottest days the old A/c unit struggled to keep the house cool at the desired setting. -Yes, I indicated that the whole right side of the house was hotter than the left side, but probably bc of the poor duct layout that is being corrected. -Here are some of the #'s off the Manual J, I don't really know which #'s you need... this document is like 6 pages long... -Building Loss 52,075 Btuh -Building Gain 41,587 Btuh Building Loads -Total Heating Required Including Ventilation Air: 52,075 Btuh 52.075 MBH -Total Sensible Gain: 35,827 Btuh 86% -Total Latent Gain: 5,761 Btuh 14% -Total Cooling Required Including Ventilation Air: 41,587 Btuh 3.47 Tons (Based on Sensible + Latent) 4.15 Tons(Based on 72% Sensible Capacity) Whats the benefit in labor warranty from Trane or the dealer? Trane labor warranty just makes it universal for any dealer to do the work? With the figures provided will a 5 ton system be overkill and cause the system to run and shut down too quickly thus causing efficiency issues/ future mechanical problems/ not properly cooling the home? Comments (8)Hi April, In your past posts you stated the house has 2400 sq. ft. It is difficult for anyone on this forum to state what is the correct size for your air conditioner. The load calculation is the only way to do this properly. I would have much more faith in the contractor who took detailed measurements. It is likely the cooling load somewhere between 3 and 4 tons. One contractor may be rounding up, and the other down. The 2-stage Infinity AC would be a good choice. On the low stage it would be operating around 2.8 tons. You would be comfortable and do a great job of removing humidity. How many days a year does the temperature go above 90 degrees in the summer? I personally think a 21 SEER system is overkill for your part of the country. It is unlikely you will ever see a pay back of the additional cost over the 16 SEER unit....See More3 ton hvac replacement unit - houston, tx
Comments (10)Thank you for the feedback.. FYI - These are not heat Pumps - Strictly straight A/C units w heat strips. The old unit ran fine in its earlier years and in its later years was nursed along and did not cool as well. I believe 3 tons will work fine as the old unit did the job in the early years and had to work in the summer when the sun came in during the late PM in the later years. There is a lot of heat that scomes through those windows in the summer. The efficiencies in todays units probably deliver much better cooling than I was getting.. Especially if they are sealed. I do have a second unit taking care of the living quarters and the Den area which are alongside this main room - when I sealed the unit 2 yrs ago - what a difference.. Another proposal came in today with 2 different A/C units w strips and 2 different Heat Pump quotes from the current Lennox servce provider who services the equipment. 1. Lennox XC14-036 Condenser unit (14.20 SEER/12.00 EER) using the new 410A refrigerant · Lennox CBX26UH36 Fan Coil with Thermostatic Expansion Valve · Lennox ECB26-10CB Heat Strip with circuit breaker · Manufactures warranty Condenser 10 year compressor & 10 year parts, Fan Coil 10 year - $6986.00 Installed w existing Thermostat 2.· Amana ASX14-036 Condenser unit (13.50 SEER/11.80 EER) using the new 410A refrigerant · Amana ARPF363616 Fan Coil with Flow-rater Valve · Amana HKR-10C Heat Strip with circuit breaker · Manufactures warranty Condenser Life Time compressor & 10 year parts, Fan Coil 10 year $7080.00 Installed 3. · Amana ASZ14-036 Heat Pump unit (15.00 SEER/13.00 EER) using the new 410A refrigerant · Amana ASPF303616 Fan Coil with Flow-rater Valve · Amana HKR-10C Heat Strip with circuit breaker · Manufactures warranty Condenser Life Time compressor & 10 year parts, Fan Coil 10 year $8168 installed - and qualifies for Tax credit 4. · Amana ASZ16-036 2- Stage Heat Pump unit (16.00 SEER/12.50 EER) using the new 410A refrigerant · Amana AEPF30361A Fan Coil with Flow-rater Valve · Amana HKR-10C Heat Strip with circuit breaker · Manufactures warranty Condenser Life Time compressor & 10 year parts, Fan Coil 10 year $ 9,442.00 Installed SEERs look a little low compared to the earlier quotes.. I am not familiar w Heat pumps only straight A/c and Heat strip units.. I feel that running that compressor unit in the winter just creates wear..That is why I'm slanted toward heat strips. Can one get a manual J from an independent source or does it have to be a contractor? I hear they are some work to work up and obviously I will pay for it. How much are they. If you have suggestions on specific units / condensor / air handler combinations I'd be happy to check them out as well. This is a big expense and i want to do this right. Thanks...See MoreNeed help choosing new a/c unit
Comments (8)Sorry the furnace had two numbers on a sticker attached to the side. The first is TUH2B080A9V3VAB the second is 9391NGP1G. All of the units quoted are 3 tons. The manual J came back for a three and a half but all three said that the current ductwork would not support the larger unit. Also, they all asked how comfortably the house heated and cooled. My lot has a lot of trees and I feel like the house was very comfortable both in the winter and summer. My highest electrical bill during the summer is usually around $220. So based on my input and the fact that there would need to be major ductwork they all felt comfortable keeping a three ton unit. Let me know if you need anything else or if those are not the right numbers. I am about as ignorant as it comes where HVAC is concerned. Thank you...See Morentguru
