Can the tv unit be put on the clock wall?

Why are the chairs next to each other? Is there a way to have them flank the sofa, one in each side?

It’s hard to tell by your photos exactly what the space is like.

You could try this. Move the white cabinet to behind the sofa, so you see it when you enter the room from that door we see. Move the two chairs so the face the tv with the smaller white end table in between. You may have to move the sofa a little.

Also, put the front feet of the sofa just on the rug.

Oh, forgot. Can you paint the tv unit white?

I’ll give your suggestions a try. Well at ok but painting the tv unit white as I just pained it navy so won’t be repainting it for awhile . Any suggestions for new furniture ideas.

A sectional might work but you would have to measure before buying to make sure it would fit.

Another arrangement might be to put the sofa facing the tv then work the chairs around the room. You will have to play with it.

Can you post a floor plan? Have you tried TV unit on the wall with the clock and sofa facing it and chairs with backs to kitchen/dining? Or tV unit on wall next to window with sofa and chairs grouped around FP? Everything pulled forward in both scenarios to there are walkways?

Is that some kind of fireplace left of the TV cabinet? I see too many big dark bulky pieces in the room and a lot of clutter. I suggest you box up everything you can hold in two hands and move it out while you work out the furniture issue. At a minimum replace your chairs with two new chairs that match each other and swivel. Buy a credenza that is 25% wider than the TV and place it on the wall where you have the clock. Get a larger rug to slip under the front 1/3 of the sofa with space for other seating to sit on it. Arrange the sofa and two chairs in a "U" on the rug so everyone is facing, or can swivel to face, the TV. Move the chest that's under the clock to the wall where the word tapestry is hanging.

i would also but the TV on the clock wall if it´s possible.

I will give some of your suggestions a try. I have thought about completely getting rid of fireplace ($1300.). so that I could center entertainment center on wall. Perhaps getting an entertainment center with fireplace built in. What do you think ?? That way I could center it on wall and arrange furniture around it.

The man that gave me the estimate in fireplace removal also suggested lowering mantel on fireplace and placing TV on it, but it’s still not centered in room that way.

I would try moving the TV stand to clock wall first. Have sofa directly across from it and chairs on either side OR chairs on either side of FP and sofa with back to kitchen (but not at an angle). And for future purchases, look for swivel chairs to replace the ones you have (more versatile and will give more cohesive look). Removing FP is an good option if you NEVER use it, but then you may feel your TV stand is dwarfed on that wall. I think removing a lot of the stuff in the room and then bringing back 50% will make a difference too.

ETA: if you put TV above FP, you'd need seating pushed much further back or you'll be craning your neck uncomfortably

Reading through this I note 4 have suggested moving TV unit to clock wall but you’ve not addressed that. is it doable? Cannot tell how long any of your walls are - someone also asked for a floor plan & that would help for realistic suggestions. Is that door your front entry or out to back yard? My only thoughts based on what I can see is that a larger rug is needed & the aqua color bigger chair looks like someone’s slip covered favorite comfy chair but it’s out of sync with other furnishings.

Yes moving entertainment is doable and I said I would give it a try. It is fav comfy chair and I have ordered a new slipcover for it. The door leads to back yard. I’ve thought about two love seats to replace furniture - one reclining and keep the chair.

Based on your floor plan, you basically have rectangular LR. I would make an imaginary 3" line in front of FP to create the long line of the rectangle. Set 2 chairs there (ideally swivel so then can face FP if using it) (and the space behind them becomes a walk-way around the conversation area so no one has to walk in front of TV). The sofa back faces kitchen/dining area (perpendicular to clock wall and windows). The TV unit is on current clock wall. Nothing needs to be angled. Rug anchors the conversation area with feet of sofa and 2 chairs on it. Coffee table in middle. Large art on the wall above and/or next to the FP. Maybe make a cohesive gallery wall instead of all the smaller framed photos.

If you mean to replace couch with 2 loveseats my vote on is a big NO! i think every room with a TV means it’s a family gathering place. Can you picture yourself snuggling up with those cute kids & obviously well loved doggie on a love seat? Probably not because there’s not enough room! Also, there’s not enough room on a loveseat for an adult to lay down on couch & don’t we all do that a time or two? I think there’s some “rule” about using fewer & larger pieces vs more & smaller pieces in a room. The latter looks cluttered & makes a space feel smaller.

Well actually they are presently sitting on my lap in recliner so I would welcome them having their separate seat beside me so I could snuggle with them comfortably !😂😂

Post pics when you do the rearranging! I think budget (or future budget) for 2 new smaller scale/footprint swivel chairs.

Oh my goodness Dixie it is certainly not!! Your pictures show a warm and cozy home that provides a comfortable and safe environment for a family. You did ask for decorating advice though and as you've now experienced, there are lots of opinions and ideas out there! Its a great site to get ideas. Some you love, some you hate & some spark new ideas of your own!

I liked Gcubed's comments posted yesterday on furniture arrangement using the pieces you have and expanding the seating pieces into more of the rectangular LR space & moving the TV wall unit. It makes the most sense bc it utilizes the pieces you have in the space you have into a different arrangement. It also allows for walkways into & around the seating spaces. I'd give that a try before doing anything else and I took that feedback as very positive & exactly what you were asking for in ideas. I like to move things around in my own home bc it refreshes things & highlights different pieces of decor as well as gives me a new outlook which I need from time to time!

Here's a floor plan if anyone else finds it useful.

I'm kind of guessing with the size of your furniture, but I suggest this. The blue rectangles are clear traffic paths. No bookcases against the wall taking up room, no little decor tables. Just wall art.

I think your room shape best fits a corner TV unit, with the furniture arranged in an L shape facing it.

You could get a decent sectional in there too when it comes time to replace furniture. You'd lie on the sectional to watch TV on the part that is in front of the sofa, so that's why a non-corner TV would work there.

I don't think the fireplace should be removed and I don't think the TV belongs on that wall. That's your natural traffic path through the room and it should be kept free of furniture.

Let's try some re-arranging and see how that goes.

Or if you like to lie on the sofa and watch TV as many people do, this might work very well for you. And no need to buy anything new.
