Kenneth needs to respond

Rifis I was actually wondering about Kenneth also. I know he is growing Madame Anisette, but couldn't remember if he also had Honeymoon. I find myself buying a lot of Kordes lately for my new no spray garden, but I am still not in love with their blooms like with the Austins.

Long time lurker here.. I've been dying to find reviews about a mature specimen that gets full sun. It's a gorgeous rose but I fear the blooms will look like crinkled tissue refuse in our hot Maryland sun. Our 2 Savannah Kordes' self-clean pretty well so I'm hoping for similar results here. The one Honeymoon specimen I saw in person in a CA nursery was dreadful but it was peak July so I don't want to pass judgement too soon.

I have one in full sun, zone 9b. First year but a big five gallon from a local nursery, 4 feet tall, 5-6 feet wide. It is totally fried right now, over half of its leaves burnt and crisped the most out of all my roses even with shade cloth, but it's also in the spot with the most sun. It's on drip irrigation so it gets water a couple times a week for 6-8 hours at a time. I think it still bloomed as temperatures climbed to 100 in the spring, but the last two months were just too hot. The blooms were tiny, white, and flat in the heat, maybe 1 inch at most but still lovely. I am hoping that blooms will start to look more like they did when we bought it in January soon - big and lush. Temps should be better in zones 6-7 though.

Those are some lovely romantic blooms. If I could get those I would be very happy indeed. Our temps do not normally climb over 100 here except in rare occasions in July or August. All my roses are looking tired at this time of the year tho and I just cut them a break in the heat. I really love that cream color.

I planted 2 Honeymoons this spring. The first flowers were very disappointing - rather small dirty tan colored. The next flush was much better, larger and there was that lovely blush color in the centers. Unfortunately I never got any closeup pics yet! If its very hot and I water the color stays clean, but if we get rain when it's hot and they are opening I get that dirty tan. I cannot speak for its disease resistance yet because it's a first year rose. I have two Quicksilvers. One planted last year that was great last year but diseased and totally defoliated this year. The one I planted this year looks like the one last year. It's the carry over residual fungicide/insecticide they use in the fields where they grow them. It must be a systemic because they stay clean for about 5 months before the spots start to show up. There is really no rose here that remains free of some disease, even the ADRs.

I found that with Zaide, ikaye. Such a disappointment. I wonder what they use that lasts so long?

I have a 3 year old Honeymoon in GA. It does get blackspot. Flowers often brown from thrips or rain. It is vigorous. If you spray it will do well I think. I'll probably get rid of mine eventually.

Rose_apothecary: thank you for your post. When you say it gets blackspot do you mean some leaves get blackspot towards the end of the season or do you mean it loses half its foliage? The only reason I am trying this rose is because of how disease resistant it is supposed to be and I won’t be spraying it. Atlanta is no more than 4 hours for me so our weather is almost identical.

Bumpping this up. I am hoping to move my honeymoons to the front wall of my house with Florentina. Florentina has wonderful/perfect resistance to whatever bs strains we have here. How did Honeymoon do last year for those who are growing her.

Hi, I have a second year Honeymoon-a great rebloomer and resistant to BS!!!!! She’s a winner. Beautiful glossy leaves & gorgeous blooms!!!! Kordes climbers are fabulous!

Honeymoon is a good example of Kordes roses that don't like it here. I gambled and lost on this one. She's still here, but she'll be leaving when I need her spot. It's hard to believe the roses shown above are the same as my poor, pitiful plant. Those who can grow her, should! She's gorgeous.

Quicksilver did a little better. It got to 4' tall in 2 seasons, bloomed beautifully, then abruptly died during winter. I'm trying another one. The Kordes roses that do well here (specifically my garden) are few and far between. They grow large and beautiful at the Rosarium, same town.

Thank you flowersaremusic. I actually have been surprised on how few people seemed to be growing this one and posting here. Maybe it is an indication that it doesn’t do well for many people? Here many of the Kordes seem to grow well and I tend to have more issue with rebloom. Of course our temps are mild compared to those in cooler zones so winter die back is not usually a big problem. Quicksilver is doing well here but even with an ADR it defoliates in partial sun. I am going to move it this year to a full day sun position and see how it does. It performs wonderfully for Moses.

Here in Fingerlakes, NY, 6a Kordes are most of my best roses, great havibg no BS, hardy, grow well. Honeymoon has grown well for me & others I saw posts last summer. . I think the white/creamy climbers are simply not as popular. I see very few posted. All of my roses were planted in enriched new soil and freshened wirh new spil every year some. So all my roses grew well last year, except for those few prone to BS. All my Kordes did exceptional. I listed my akordes recently on a tgread about Kordes roses. I think if you take good care of Honeymoon it should be an exceptional rose!!!

I have Honeymoon and it does well here in Middle Tennessee (South of Nashville) I do have to fight off some thrips late in the first flush, but it is magnificent and well worth my time to spray a little spinosad every week or so. A little blackspot later in the summer--but this is in a prime spot for me, and you know I don't have much patience with bs when it's taking up good real estate!

@subk3 beautiful! are yours in full sun?

I am thinking of planting Honeymoon roses in obelisks in my front flowerbed that would get full west Texas sun all day long. I live in Lubbock Tx (7a) and we have temps over 100 degrees in the summer, littler to no humidity, high winds and cold winters (lovely huh).

Would this rose do well in full sun? My dream is to have a lush English garden and I live in the dessert.

@Alyssa yes. It is on the Southeast side of a low picket fence so definately full sun. Like most roses is slows down in the heat and watering through the heat is essential.

I usally get a great spring flush (that I have to stay on top of the thrips) then is slows in the heat of the summer with some sparadic blooms then a good fall show. I planted it spring of '18 and it's gotten better every year.

You will have to stay on top of it and be committed to training for an obelsik. It should be doable, but it does end up with some pretty stiff canes.
