What do you think has changed with Houzz?

Last night I went on to GW and all I got was an empty page saying that Houzz was making some changes and was unavailable. I was actually worried, thinking it was going to be shut down. Whew.

Do you see anything different? You'd think if it was general maintenance, it would be done over-night as most sites are. I do see a Poll button, now I'm not sure if it was there before.

Looking at your post, I don‘t see a Like button, but I see an Email button that I don’t think was there before. And was the Follow button always there? Have I always been able to share an OP to FB and Twitter? Funny, because I have An account on only on of those.

I see the Like button as usual. Would not have noticed email since I never would think to do it. Is that what is new?

Motherof3sons- Thank you. It's so funny, my mom and I were saying the same thing yesterday...how many times do you get up to run to the closet, in the middle of the night! LOL Groceries are kind of a split, probably front in the winter (less driveway to plow out...and less steps up to the house) and the back when there's no snow. Iowablue- I'll send you an email, after work. Where does your daugher live? Further south than Pullman? Central Washington is pretty dry (east side of the Cascade Mountains) but parts of eastern Washinton start having trees, again. We live very close to Idaho (about five miles away) and are in an area with trees, rolling hills, creeks and some farmland, also pasture. Further north is more pasture and colder winters...while further south is often more farmland, especially on the Palouse. Spokane is the largest city in eastern Washington (king of in the middle of the state, but only about 15 miles from the Idaho border) and about half hour away from Coeur d'Alene Idaho, which is famous as a summer resort. Coeur d'Alene Lake is one of the larger lakes in the area, but Pend'Oreille is up in Sandpoint, Idaho is also beautiful. There are more lakes and rivers in the northern to central part, of far eastern Washington. One thing about living here, which I'm sure your daughter has mentioned...we have much colder winters (and longer) than you would in the Seattle area (western Washington) and hotter summers, too. That being said, much of eastern Washington and northern Idaho is absolutely beautiful. Further south, there are less trees, but more farmland. It all depends on what you like :)

Get rid of the shutters, get a new front door and some actual landscaping and run a porch across the whole front of the house.

Thank you, all! I have no style when it comes to decorating, so your comments make me feel better about the room. My next task is to tackle window treatments (ugh, that's gonna be a hard one), pillows and lamps etc. Great idea using books to raise the plant, gail618. I've received such great advice on here. Any other suggestions would be great.

The technology age may be a factor, Mary. I can't access places on Houzz from our older desktop. I certainly can't upload photos from it. Our computer is about the same age as yours. It was a cutting edge Mac at the time. Ha, ha. My husband ran Logic software and recorded music with it. Now it sits around and roars like a T rex, but my husband can still do music production, send emails, etc. There is a Houzz phone number you can call, too. I posted in on "[How to Contact Houzz Support Directly[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/how-to-contact-houzz-support-directly-dsvw-vd~5356515?n=8)." Our desktop runs on Snow Leopard. I think that one is too ancient for Houzz. Carol

IIRC, when we received the notice about the message system changing it mentioned being able to include photos and attachments. That hasn't changed for me--using either GW or Houzz url, I don't see those options.

I see the like button, and the email, but I don't know if the email option is new. I don't see a follow button. If one hovers over another member's name the follow option is still there (assuming the member allows following).

I just clicked on the email button to see what it does. It notifies your email contacts (if you let it) of the Houzz discussion. So it's more visibility for Houzz, so more business.

It also asks to connect to your Gmail contacts. No thank you!

I see Facebook, Twitter, Email,Save, Comment, Like. Was the comment button there before ? I clicked it, and it takes you to the comment section at the bottom of the page,

I'm on a PC.

I got that maintenance page a couple times the past few days, once when I tried coming here through a bookmark, and again yesterday or the day before when I just hit the back key to get back to the forum page from inside a thread - maybe the only thing that's changed is the maintenance page instead of an Oops page.

Maybe that’s why threads are disappearing...maybe they are having to use a back up copy due to problems.

I just want to know why my unfinished posts disappear . I start writing something and and before I can finish...poof, it's gone. It even closes my browser, and it only happens on this website. It happened again today..sigh.

It is being strange again. I was in HT and it showed I was signed in. I went to post a comment on the temperature thread here and it wanted me to sign in. Except it stated my name was not found. Backed out and for at least now I can post.
