David Austin Eden Rose -Hot, Humid Central FL?
Comments (9)Sorry I don't know about Eden, but I can tell you that Teasing Georgia does well for me in full Florida sun. It took 3 years to become established, and is now gorgeous. It gets some black spot but quickly recovers, and the blooms are big, frequent and sturdy. Gertrude Jekyll is also doing well even though it's in too much shade. "Gertie" has such a delicious fragrance that I have to keep her. Both TG and "Gertie" are grafted on Fortuniana. I'm not buying any more grafted roses, ever, so when my own-root Austins have been around for awhile, I'll post & let you know how they are doing. Was your Glamis Castle own-root? Mine doesn't look very healthy right now, and it's not responding well to nutritional supplements as are my other roses. If you like the way Austins look, you will probably appreciate OGR Mrs. B.R.Cant. Wonderful color, formally arranged petals, very vigorous grower down here. happy roses! Comments (71)Thank you for the reminder to be more in awe of all the beauty I am gifted with in my garden. I tend to be focused on the creating aspect of gardening. Taking time to just be in the moment and admire with a joyful mind is the gift of our labors and talent. I see you are in zone 6b, berrypie. My growing zone is 8, so I am a fair bit milder. Certainly go for the hot area for Eden rose. As well, I am sure you know all about mulching the roots of your roses for winter. I am an advocate of own root roses, finding them to be much easier to grow. As well, they come back true from the roots should the top die to the ground for some reason....See MorePictures of Eden
Comments (11)Hello once again Japie. I was just admiring your above photos, and was intrigued by the pic of Table Mtn.across the bay. So I looked up Cape Town on the Microsoft Virtual Earth website for a better close up view. I'm thinking that your photo was taken from the North of Cape Town, looking South. Perhaps from TableView or Marine Drive ? And I located East London too, about half way between Pt.Elizebeth and Pt.Edward.on the Indian Ocean side. How does one know if you are looking at the Atlantic or Indian Ocean from SA'S tip? ;) And too,I noticed that the Antarctic is but a mere 3000 miles South of your Eden. Hmmm,a bit close,eh? But enough geography. I really am impressed with your property and the beautiful landscaping you've done. Do you occasionally change things around other than for seasonal lighting? Must keep you busy, but in the best of ways. Comments (66)Clark, your dahlia is glorious and healthy as can be! My problem is acquiring clean stock, bagged dahlias many are virused and so also sometimes from specialty growers deepening on their quality control. Once virus is spotted it needs to be culled, sucking insects can easily spread disease from plant to plant, here we have large numbers of tarnished plant bugs that not only do their physical damage, but again also spread diseases....See Morekatyajini
