I probably should have left the blue out of my description but on my monitor it does have a steel-blue cast to it. I sent for a swatch so I can be sure what color I'm talking about. I searched the furniture forum and C&B got really good reviews so I'm inclined to get it (after I actually sit in the real thing, of course). I might have to re-paint the Great Room though. And I just painted. ugh. (I have high ceilings and I'm afraid of heights so I have to talk my DH into climbing up there & he works a bazillian hours). Oh well. I'll probably wait with that until after I get the furniture (IF I get it). BTW I started another thread about "starting from scratch". I've got a house full of teak Scandinavian furniture (orangey-warm color) which I just found out is in style?! Would a gray sectional work with that?

So even if it's on the same strip card, it could have different undertones? Undertones are purely subjective, experiential and have nothing to do with paint colors. Really. They don't. All paint color collections are based on hue families. To that point, Sherwin Williams just released their new in-store color display which organizes their colors by hue family first, then by saturation (vivid to dull). Major colorimetry kudos to Sherwin Williams for getting it right. When it comes to the old SW color strips, there is no guarantee that all the colors on the strip are from the same hue family. They *might* be. They might not. A paint color strip is not a color string. A color string is when you take the darkest color in the group and do mathematical "let-downs" so you end up with different value steps of the same color. Most paint color strips are not color strings, are not mathematical "let-downs". Color string color strips do exist in the market, but there aren't many. The majority of the time you have a random collection of paint colors with *maybe* some attribute or aspect in common featured together on one strip. (so if you come across some kind of magical "paint color system" that claims to make paint color selection "no-fail" based on fandecks or color strips know that they're total b.s.) I'd rather greenish/brown undertones than blue/purple! Dovetail SW 7018 belongs to the yellow hue family. Which is why even the digital swatch looks far away from anything blue/purple. I know it belongs to the yellow hue family because I'm that color professional who sometimes visits the GW. ;) Lowes mixed it and it turns out, the gallons I bought were slightly different than the sample can I used and based my decision on. So...I'm thinking I may be able to wind up with more paint at their expense (hiring painter for my vaulted ceilings, though, is on me). When you cross brands and color match, all bets are off, no guarantees. Lowe's uses different colorants than Sherwin Williams. While Lowe's (or any place) can indeed produce a color match that might meet paint industry standards for being a "color match", no one is promising that it's going to look and behave in situ exactly like the original SW color mixed using original SW product.

Neil, you will get a lot more suggestions if you start your own thread. what I will tell you is no gray laminate. In fact, I wouldn't even do laminate. can't you do a nice engineered oak? like a french oak? These following two floors are exactly what I would choose. (along w/these beams. more on that later) all engineered options. that won't go out of style and will look great w/your stone. The last thing you want is more gray on floor where you'll be stuck with it for decades. With flooring, it should be something that will last. laminate isn't going to last 50 years. wood will. wood floor will never go out of style. plastic stuff will. But ifi you must to the LVP, pick a really, really good quality brand/style that looks like a nice french oak in a natural to medium stain color I would NOT do any type of gray flooring. Your fireplace is very cool and modern. bring in some warmer wood tones. This is Alaska Gray on this fireplace. Notice the warm wood floor, the wood accents, the white walls, and all of the textured items (the rug, and misc decor items) A potted tree in the corner would be perfect. I also have to mention your room and windows. that ledger stone leans toward a more contemporary vibe. The casing around your doors/windows and entryways, are all traditional. your stairway railing is traditional (90's) the windows, ditto. and that ceiling fan, please, exchange for a nice (and hang it lower) chandelier of some type. This color combo, flooring, furniture, would look equally amaing in your room. love the black accents on the sides of this fireplace. This wood floor is perfect color for yours. wood beams that you can't see make the whole room And if you did some faux wood beams on that cathdreal ceiling, it would look a million times better. In fact, since you like the modern farmhouse, check out this link. she has the same fireplace stone like you do and explains how she did the faux beams. Use your imagination w/this one on the fireplace (imagine your stone). this is a darker floor to match the beams. Sectional is so much nicer than what you have. wood shelves, throws, the lighting,,,, some other decor ideas if you like the farmhouse. (notice all of these have the warmer wood floors, not GRAY!) copy any of these photos for ideas, flooring, beams, decor. Like I said, start your own thread and you'll get lots more help if you want to transform that room.

@littlebug - I appricate your feedback, since I am open to others ideas. What color would you suggest? I do like the Scandinavian style, so I might be going with a lighter floor. Here are a couple of examples of brown furniture with gray walls, I find the look harmonious and pretty!
