Need help for Main and ensuite bathroom ideas

Hello everyone,

Need advice on making toilet north facing but confused with space around bathrooms.

I have attached my architects plan but I am not to sure how to make toilets north facing.

I want big shower and double vanity in Ensuite and free standing bath, standard shower, vanity and toilet in Main Bathroom.

Could anyone please advice something?

Why does the toilet need to face north?

For the main bath, you could move the toilet where the vanity is and the vanity where the toilet is, but on the north wall.

For the ensuite, you could switch the vanity and toilet, though you'd need to shift the door open, so you're not tripping on the toilet as you come in. Alternatively, you could rotate the shower onto the east wall, put the vanity across from it, and have the whole south wall open, so you could place the toilet with space to get in the door.

I want toilet to face north, because I am from India and my parents believe in Vastu which is like a way to make your life better and peaceful by following some methods while placing things.

And my parents really believe in that, so I am trying my best to put it the way they like without compromising looks and design.

For main bath, I thought the same, but wasn't sure if shower door will open properly after that.

For ensuite, same thing. Because it is a double vanity, I am not able to decide if there will e enough space to stand and use 2nd vanity near wall when toilet is in front. I can shift the door.

I didn't quite understand the alternative idea you shared.

I'm assuming from what the OP said that they don't want or need hall access to a bathroom that one of the bedrooms isn't going to be used as a bedroom. I also LOL at how home builders are so overspecific in naming the rooms on their floorplans. Like everyone wants a game room in the middle of all the bedrooms and home office, just the thing to ensure a good night's rest or undistracted working at a desk. One small item I find really irksome in this floorplan: the door to the master bathroom toilet room is ideally positioned to (a) block the entry from the bedroom when open, which it assumedly would be when not in use, and (b) whack the person using the sink when unexpectedly opened from inside. Also, that door to the upper left bedroom is a weird one. Perhaps to keep it from blocking access to the J&J bathroom when open, it's hinged on what would otherwise be the wrong side. As it is, especially since the bedroom closet extends further than the door opening, the door must be opened an awkward 180 degrees to enter the bedroom from the hallway. Bryan, The lotus are not blue at all. They are really a warm color. Everyone things they are halogens. I think you won't regret the fan and i don't think it will cool your room quickly. Since you are in Canada, our frozen neighbor to the north, did you consider underfloor heating for the bathroom? This is one thing I will definitely do when I remodel my bathroom. Regarding the fan and lights for that matter, it is so frustrating that there is no where to go to see these things in operation and you have to take a risk to order them without the possibility of return in many cases to determine if this is what you really want! Just a general rant and I live in a major metropolitan area but it is almost impossible to see these items. I had a similar issue recently with outdoor light fixtures that I just had to order on faith and had no idea what they really looked like. At $200 a piece, it was a huge gamble but it ended up being what I wanted. At least these decisions are made and you are on the next thing! Did you get the godmogon cabinet? Also, did you see the Maestro timer switches for the fan? Maestro Timer Switches - I have these and really like them. You also have an option of the humidity switches which turn on when the humidity reaches a certain level and Panasonic sells those too. They are not as pretty as the Maestro but are very functional.

Have you considered having an entry to the closet from the bathroom? I’ve owned 12 homes (all primary residences as I’ve been relocated a lot for work in the past) and 4 of them had that layout and personally I would never consider going back to the layout where one would need to leave the bathroom and go back into the bedroom to enter the closet to get dressed after showering. It sounds like a small thing, but it makes a big difference, especially if one spouse is sleeping while the other one is getting ready in the morning.

Paint walls solid white or very light color - get rid of wallpaper. I would not swap the toilet as older toilets were smaller. Replacing with a modern unit of any style will take up more room. The wall mounts don't save room and put stress on the wall. The shutters are gorgeous so keep! You simply cannot buy shutters with thin slats like that anymore. Remove the "secret" door and glass shower door. Simply use a thin white curtain. If the shower will not be used the space could be converted into a storage closet or combination of sink and shelves. Change floor tiles to white or very light color. Your sink is adorable and unique. If it is functional I would keep. The towel bar could be swapped with clear lucite or thin chrome bar. Remove wall basket. That space could be plain wall, a piece of artwork, or a bathroom towel holder (clear lucite or chrome). We remodeled our small home bath and are familiar with brightening up such rooms and maximizing space.

Ah! I've heard of Vastu, but I didn't know there was a recommendation on toilet direction ... good to know.

In the main bath, I was guessing the shower opened to the north, so the current toilet position would create more interference than the vanity on the north wall (facing the shower).

In the ensuite, if I have my dimensions right, the section not containing the shower seemed pretty close to square, the space would be similar to how it is drawn, give or take a few centimeters, though maybe I've got the vanity depth wrong and it would be tighter.

I'll try to explain the other one again: the vanity would be on the west wall, facing the shower, which would be along the east wall (with the door next to it), and then the toilet would be on the south wall, probably almost centered, so there would be room to get in the door but the toilet wouldn't be into the end of the vanity.

Ok... I will ask my architect to switch vanity and toilet in main bathroom and see, if that is feasible.

I also got one more thing in mind and draw that on paper. Photo attached. See if that seems feasible to you for main bathroom.

For ensuite, as you said, shower on east and vanity on west. But it's just 2m wall. So, wouldn't that be very less distance for standing?

I mean, shower width generally is 900mm and vanity width minimum is 500mm. Then, in between them, for standing, it will be only 600mm. Will that be sufficient?
