Transplant: There are some summer apples that you could expect to be ripe or nearly ripe at the end of July, but most of the high-quality table apple varieties would ripen in late September or even into October in your climate zone. In other words, you appear to have a completely normal situation there, with apples a little more than half grown. It would be nice to have an overall look at the tree, but from the closeup you provide, it appears someone took the trouble to thin that apple cluster to one fruit. Whoever did that, good move. I hope they did it to the others too. The shape of your apple says Golden Delicious, Criterion, or something like that, but could also be a Japanese apple variety called Mutsu (aka Crispin) that is a cross of Golden Delicious and the Japanese Indo variety. I have a Mutsu tree in my orchard, and the apples look approximately like yours. They are also at about the same stage of development. The particular apple in your photograph has been visited by the codling moth (right side), which means that when it is finally ripe it will be wormy around the core. There are also touches of cedar apple rust on the leaf just above it. The CAR does not appear to be a serious case, since it has not affected the fruit, but if the other apples also show codling moth damage you may want to look into bagging the apples in ziplock sandwich bags to keep them at bay. You can find extensive discussions of bagging apples by using keywords like "bagging apples", both on this forum and with a Google search. It looks like a black cherry to me, too, although the leaves are less elongated than mine. It might be a choke cherry -- their berries are more purplish than black and the leaves are shorter. Some black cherries are better than others. Mine is quite good, but no matter what you make out of it, it's hard to shake the feeling you are eating cough syrup. You may want to post these pictures in the Tree forum, and add a pictures of the bark as well as the full tree. Wild cherries are a common tree throughout the east coast.

I see nobody has responded, so I guess I will stick my neck out on this one. Maybe by now yours has colored up a bit and grown a tad. I have 20 various apples trees down in Dodge county about 30 miles south of you and none of my apples have the shape of yours. However, its shape and the lobes at the bottom suggest it might be a Red Delicious. Yes, they can be hardy in Minnesota and it was the leading commercial apple here before the winter of 1978 when most of them succumbed to the extra ordinary cold temps that winter. Then most commercial orchards yanked them out and replaced them with Haralson, Regent, or Fireside. Since then most orchards have gone with Honeycrisp or Zestar. ThereÂs another small orchard over in Dodge Center that has two 20 year old Red Delicious trees, they bear fairly well, and they are absolutely wonderful apples when eaten straight from the tree. It is only after they sit around in cold storage for 8 or 9 months do they taste supermarket disgusting. So see if they get bigger and turn red. If they are Red Delicious they should be ready to harvest around September 20th, although everything this year is two weeks late.

It is hard to say, they have never saw any blooming on those trees and leaves do look red . But in any case I think they will keep those trees for now, they will trim but that bush (as kiminpl called blob) they probably will remove it and plant small tree as Yardvaark(9A) mentioned. Yardvaark(9A) Thanks for your design and suggestions. We like the idea of multi-trunk tree in front of the blank wall. As biondanonima said it is weird layout. The walkway leads to the driveway/garage that's correct. So thats why there are no reason for them to walk directly out the door and out to the street. And that's why they don't need walkway from the sidewalk directly to the front door. So the idea is to make this entrance more closed from the public. To plant plants in order cover the ugly layout and huge wall, make some privacy. Because the entrance is facing the main road and it is a corner house. There are used to be two huge oak trees in front of the house. When they moved in they had to cut it because they were dead. Thats why that wall look very weird. Here is the picture from 2008.
