Hang your rod higher than the cabinet

Get roller shades instead of curtains.

Or you put shades inside your patio door

Hang the curtains on a rod a little higher than the cabinet. Then get 2 curtain panels and attach ring clips. You can then pull them to each side. This is what I have

ha ha! I fired 5 contractors during our remodel. What would they do with a brain if they had one? IMHO, If I had that situation I'd get a rod where you could stack the curtains to the left of the window on the wall.

I would go just at the height of the cabinet with the rod, and place the panels on rings, keeping them to the right most of the time to keep use of the door and light switches unobstructed. when needed pull them all the way to the left and right for privacy.

You have a beautiful view with nice light coming in! Don't cover it up except at night if you need privacy from the owls in the trees.

I would add a roller shade, given the bulkiness of 2 panels of curtains on the left, creating an imbalance as well as you having to reach behind for the switch. A shade will also feel lighter and more modern for a kitchen.

Hang one wide curtain or a pair of curtains on a rod reaching from the refrigerator cabinet to the left wall if curtains are your preference. Or you could hang a light-filtering roll-up window shade the width of the window frame, making sure the shade is placed high enough that the rolled-up shade clears the top window frame when completely up. A lined Roman shade in a beautiful sturdy fabric would be a third choice, but it will block the incoming light.

there are blinds that go between the layers of glass, which would be the most elegant option but expensive.

curtains are your easiest solution-- esp if you have pets or any other reason to open the door at night. having them pushed over to the left during the day wouldn't be the end of the world. if you need more symmetry: choose a white that matches your cabinets, and make sure the curtain tops are the same height as those cabinets. that way the window will be "flanked" in white both sides.

or do what Sue Wulff did-- which means the right side of your door will be partially covered all day. only a few inches though.

Does the right side or left side or both sides of your patio door open (or is one fixed)?

For your patio door, you might consider vertical blinds that open fully by gathering on the left side beside the patio door, only covering the left side of the frame (when opened and the vertical panels are gathered together). You could also do that with drapes.

Vertical blinds come a myriad of colors of vinyl as well as wood, faux wood, and fabric. White would help the blinds visually disappear for the most part and not draw as much attention to the spacing.

If you choose any other kind of blinds, use a separate one for each door so you can have better control over light and privacy.

If you hang a rod higher than the cabinets, your drapes would be dragging against your cabinets.

White vinyl vertical blinds would be perfect for your patio door.

Your space is already looking good. Follow your instincts for what you do next to make it comfortable to you and yours and welcoming to those you invite into your home.

If the rod bracket is installed right above in the end line of the cabinet the curtains won’t drag against the cabinets because that is where it will stop.

I have a solar shade like Maureen posted. Mine is actually 2 shades to control light for TV. It is the best solution I have had in 33 years living in this house. You really don't have the room for stacking curtains on the left and if you stack them to the right on the glass you will definitely miss the light.

you're up high and it doesn't look like anyone is behind you. why do you even want curtains?? The only way anyone can see in is to climb that pine tree 12 feet up and use binoculars. Not likely.

I had vertical blinds once too but if I were to do I’d probably place a cornice to match the cabinet crown then hide the vertical blind brackets underneath it if you get my drift

The blinds I used to have Beth , the face cover would usually fall on my head not that I didn’t like it but the blue matched the paint texture of the kitchen even though it wasn’t suppose to be blue.
