Paint Design Dilemma Kitchens

Ceiling Color same as Wall Color?

Getting ready to kick off a kitchen remodel. Cabinets will be SW 6170 Techno Gray (greenish/gray), Walls will be SW 6169 Sedate Gray (a lighter version of 6170). Trim will be BM French Canvas. My bead board ceiling is currently white which I do like, however I'm seeing more rooms painting the ceiling and walls the same color, rather than having so many color breaks. I have good lighting and the floors will be light. Just wondering if there is any design guidance on ceiling/wall choices, specifically in a kitchen.

I'm seeing that too but with all the gray going on I think you should leave the white ceiling or spruce it up with glossy white paint or matte. What color will the back-splash be?

@Georgina Beaumont1! Backsplash will be a white or near white artisan style subway. Granite is Bianco Romano which is predominantly white with grays and limestone green peaking through. Flooring will be very light. The paint name Techno Gray for the cabinets is rather misleading. It's leans pale green. Same with the Sedate Gray for the walls. It's about 2-3 shades lighter than the Techno Gray. I tend to agree about the ceiling. Since the ceiling is bead board, i.e. wood, I do like a bit of sheen on the wood. I have above cabinet lighting and it makes a pretty reflection, which flat would not do.

Wow! Love the article on LRV! I am definitely going to go lighter. I have not purchased our floor yet so that may change as well. I like darker floors and white cabinets but the hubby has encouraged me to try something new, but I’m thinking that’s why I’m struggling so much. I love the pic with the darker floors. Thanks so much for all the feedback. I will continue to post questions as I’m overwhelmed with the house as it is our first build and we don’t want to re-do everything.

"Usually, the paint for a bedroom is not selected until the bedding has been selected so" and if you change your bedding often? Sounds inconveniently traditional. You could paint the walls at full strength and go 25-50% saturation of the same color on the ceiling so it feels cohesive. You could pick a color on the same color strip or in the same color area. Try this article The Trouble With A North-Facing Room it lists your paint choice as an option. I think it's more modern to go with the same color and you could make it work with the high ceilings to alleviate the feeling of a cave. Have fun please - no white ceilings :)

Understand there is a cost to splitting the two (labor & materials to tape off, labor to paint another day, and slightly more paint. Check w large samples of both colors each on wall and ceiling surfaces and then determine if the cost and time is worthwhile.

I don't know anything about your house or the décor so it is very hard to give any kind of advice, but I am wondering why shiplap? Sometimes when I read a post like yours I think that you may be trying too hard to be different. I like a bit of a surprise, like colored ceilings or trim or both. Like using bolder colors and more color, but I generally try to keep the design elements simple and let the color be the star. Is the shiplap going to compete with the color? More isn't always better, sometimes it is just more.
