A couple options:

--Move the piece over your console to that wall. Add a round mirror over the console.

--Or move the turquoise and white art work to that wall and get a much larger horizontal abstract landscap art work that spans the wall where your two armchairs are.

I would not suggest a shelf with much depth unless it has a piece of furniture underneath it, safety factor. Since it is a passage way, I favor the idea of adding art with a blue found in your current piece. Separately, I would suggest moving the ficus tree--near the console to the large wall between the chair and front window. I think that would help that wall have more visual weight.

I would do big art--5'x5'. It could be really impactful.

I had the same concern about a shelf as The Best Dressed House; you don't want it to be a hazard to traffic.

Is that the front door directly behind sofa? If so, I would move the sofa to the wall where the 2 chairs are, and place the tall plant on right side of sofa, to create separation of LR and dining area.

Thanks everyone! Now to decide on an art piece 😊. I do love blue accents, I like my blue art canvas but it is too small for both walls I think. I will have to try it on the blank wall and see. Too bad I didn't buy two of those when I had the chance.

Yes it is the front door behind the sofa. Thanks for the suggestion I will try moving it there and take some pics to compare

I’d move sectional to far wall and art will now feel balanced. A coffee table would help as well

I would not put a mirror on bare wall, facing door. From Eastern Feng Shui perspective, mirror directly facing front door is not desirable.

I do like the mirror idea,’though - and I was going to suggest a floating shelf + mirror for wall where art is now.

And for the bare wall, art. Either one large piece or a grouping. And I think without a console. Maybe you could use console in dining area. If anything on that other wall, I would maybe do a slim bench under the art.

Place a round mirror over the console. You can check hair and makeup when leaving the house. Try the art piece that is. currently over the console, try on the black wall. It doesn't have to take up the whole space. I would move the couch to the wall where the chairs are. Entering the room from the front door to the back of a sofa is not welcoming. Place the plant on the side of the sofa to separate the living and dining rooms. Take more pictures when you're done and show us.

How many faux trees do you have? I would move both on either side of the two chairs/wall art.

As for the bare wall, put the mountain art there with a skinny black shelf to look like the picture is leaning….so both: art and shelf. (just not that green thing).

Now that the faux tree is gone, hang a mirror over the chest, just as Maureen suggests. Add a lamp…important for the look and soft light.

The console is crowded. Get the big round mirror everyone suggests and put it over console. Ditch the fake plants. The entrance should be open and uncluttered. Move the console painting to the facing wall. It's wonderful to walk into a living room, have a mirror there, console for keys, and be able to look at an art work.

I have moved the couch to the wall and it does look better . Can't decide what side I like the fake tree on, or if I should just get rid of it? I do have another tree just like it so I could put one on each side. I definitely don't like my little side table I have in between the chairs so I will have to look for a different one as well as a coffee table.

Do you think the mountain picture looks too small on the wall? I do like looking at it as I walk in the door.

I like the idea of a mirror above the entry table. I have a gold antique one that is currently next to the door, maybe that would work if I got some different accessories to balance it. What do you think?

I think the new arrangement looks much better. I prefer the tree next to the dining area (but move it a bit to the right so it's not so close to the couch). I think the picture looks great on the blank wall, but your dh has it a bit too high. The mirror looks a bit small over the console, but could work if you had a pair of lamps there.

mountain picture looks great. furniture looks great, but relax the chairs a few degrees outward (facing in). no fake tree, I don't think, and that mirror is too small to do the trick over the console.

how old are your kids? do you have a rear entrance to the house? because there's something to be said for moving the console to the wall along with the mountain pic, and then you can have a bench with shoe baskets underneath for kids coming home from school. otherwise, I like the picture alone on the wall and find something else you like over the console, maybe with a small table lamp to welcome you home in the evening.

I like your mirror. I agree, that with some lamps, it might work size-wise over console there.

Mountain picture looks great on other wall.

Add lumbar cushions on chairs and a tall plant by front door so it acts as a backdrop to chairs and also visually divides the entrance and living room. (Add other tall plant at end of sectional near dining room)

If you chose the right coffee table (a touch MCM to go with console and occasional chairs) the side table will work well with the right accessories.

You like the mountain picture at door and I think it looks good there. Suggest removing the antique mirror as it’s not suiting your room at all style or size wise - would be cute in a bedroom.

Definitely look for a large mirror over console; bring home a few and test them out and add a lamp, as its reflection will be very welcoming at night and brighten up the hall. Compliment MCM style and it will be a lovely focal point at entrance.
