Altering Douglas Fir beams to match White Oak floor

last modified: 3 years ago

I have some newly exposed ceiling beams that had been painted. I'm pretty sure they're Douglas Fir. The wood has a yellowish hue and the grain is moderately dark and redish. My wood floor will be stained White Oak.

I've considered veneering or boxing the beams but they frame a skylight and get a lot of sun (i'm putting cellular shades up but they'll be open sometimes). So I don't think thinner pieces of wood will endure that sort of sun and heat too well.

I've read about two part wood bleaches but the articles always mention lightening stains. Does anyone know if these bleaches will lighten the natural color of the wood?

Any advice or resources would be helpful. Thanks.

Any additional info on top of this would be great.
