Just to say, not any white would look good with your counters.

My story: Going back 10 years. We put in BM Dove a White cabinets. I loved ones that I saw in the showroom. I actually saw them! In my home they looked stark white, Lighting is everything. To compile, I was talked into a brown granite at the stone yard. DH liked it so I went with it. Big mistake. That white clashed with my granite. As one decorator confirmed, “they are fighting with each other.”

It took two tries for a backsplash.

We also changed the lighting.

Lighting might be an option, but honestly it looks beautiful.

@eld6161 Yours looks lovely! Your wall color really compliments it and love your floor. Our floor tile really dated the kitchen..can’t stand that tile.

K, at some point you will change the flooring, but it looks like you have wood also that you would need to coordinate.

my wall color is dated, it BM Powell Buff, gold undertones. I’ll probably change it if we ever re paint.

I actually think your cabinets look great with the countertops. Live with it for a while. I think the flooring (and possibly the wall color) is what is not quite right.

I think your cabinets look beautiful; I’m not loving your wall color though. I don’t think it compliments your kitchen nor goes very well with your countertop.

@megs1030. The wall color goes so well with the rest of the house...just not the kitchen. But kitchen is smack middle of the house. And I dont want to change paint color to something to suit kitchen because the rest of the house loves gray - we have all grey/white furniture. So that’s the pickle.

I'm really awful with color, but to my eye Alabaster is rendering warm white - at least in your photos on my monitor. You also have warmth in the counters and backsplash that probably need a warm white.

If it were me, I'd leave the kitchen as you have it - but I might take a second look at the griege wall paint. Maybe someone who understands the many variations on warm gray can comment on that problem.

Is this your original granite? You are blaming the cabinet color when in fact any white would have probably just accentuated the fact that the wall color doesn’t look good with the granite! The cabinets look fine. You need a different wall color in this room that will tie in all the elements that you have!

😂 there’s more than one gray; this gray! Otherwise just learn to love it!

If the couches are in the same room as the kitchen, can you get a picture from further back? It might help some of the color savvy posters to guess at how to tie the elements together.

@lynartist. Yeah granite is original. Would it be odd to paint just a kitchen a different color that’s in the middle of 2 living rooms and dining area?

ty! Yeah Greige throws it off but it looks beautiful in the rest of the house with all grey and white furniture and decor. And kitchen is smack middle of the house. Kitchen would love beige. But rest of the house with all different shades of grey and white everything would hate beige. 😢

@lynartist. i tried So many grays to work for entire space. I pretty Much tried every BM and SW Greige there is, know LRV, chroma undertones of each...and no grey or Greige works with the kitchen. Only beige, tan cream. But beige tan or cream dont work anywhere else. So I am at a loss.

We need to see more of the room. Is there a start and stop in this area?

Are you eventually replacing flooring? Is replacing countertops down the road an option?

Are you keeping the tile floor because they are quite beige. The sofa is a blue/ gray so the wall color could be something else with no problem. This one room could be different than the rest of the house if you wanted it to be. What’s the color on your walls now?

Looking at the long view though it’s not such a big thing. I think I mind the beige tile more than the countertop. Just live with it for awhile. The cabinets look beautiful; they really do.

So, just paint the very little wall real estate in the kitchen. Paint it the same color as the cabinets. What you are reacting to is the interaction between paint colors. Reducing the area of interaction will reduce your reaction. Make sure the two paint colors only meet at two vertical edges (blue lines).

AG is a warm color, really more taupe. One can’t judge looking at a screen how it looks in your space exactly but I’m sure it is lovely. It may be that you are just having to readjust how all this looks now from how it did before!

You could reduce part of the beige by getting rid of the backsplash and granite lip and doing a plain subway tile.

You want some warmth in your living quarters . The kitchen is set back and a shift on all the gray tones in a good way. Kitchen can always be a bit different from adjacent spaces.

I def can try that., easy. Do you think it would look odd to also try painting the perimete you highlighred a darker beige to lighten cabinets and go with warm granite?

You know, you want the look of a white kitchen, and the best way to get that is by adding more white. I know you don’t love alabaster, but adding more of it might be the answer.

I know you are planning on changing the backsplash. You actually have two right now. If you remove the tile and paint the wall above the 4” splash as well, you might be able to live with the counters you have.

Yes, don’t paint the surrounding walls! The backsplash will make a big difference in reducing the influence of the beige granite you are seeing.

Now for floor - we have beautiful dark hardwood floors everywhere else. I def don’t want to replace them. So what do so do with the kitchen area? Try to find exactly same hardwood? Which is probably impossible. (It needs to be newer waterproof too). Do Different hardwood but that still have differenet flooring smack in the middle. Different tile?

Bring your beautiful dark hardwood into the kitchen. It doesn’t have to be an exact match, close enough is close enough. Use a transition strip.

(not a pro) I'm another who thinks your cabinets look lovely, FWIW. You mentioned that you already messed with lights, but I'd keep trying. After reading here that I should look for something at least 4000 Kelvins, I swapped out all my soft white lights for daylight bulbs (5000k.) Yikes! It felt like I was in a Walmart. Definitely changed the colors in my kitchen to be more cool, if that's what you're wanting. (Those bulbs are now in the garage and storage room and I'm still working on finding the right kind of bulb for my kitchen.) Lighting is complicated, and it can definitely change how colors look.

Yes, 5000 have that operating room vibe to me. Not a good thing.

I would not paint the surrounding wall area a different color. As you can see the cabinets and wall color play ver well together. Diminish the influence of your granite by changing the backsplash!

i love the greys thought. And majority of our furniture is grey. Couch, marble coffee table, rugs, just ordered custom wood eat in nook table and bench that’s white and whitewash grey...So I cant get rid of the grey. Whole house would need to be refurnished and I like our furniture. I dont Like brown or beige or tan. I realily really don’t like those colors. I d rather get rid of floor tile and countertops to make it work.

I redid bathrooms and my office room and loveee light grey and white with accent colors. Happy space. I would cry if had to paint the house assesible beige. And yes I sampled it. I d rather redo the kitchen in the future to make it match grey than have beige or tan tones in the house.

The wall color reads different too. Agreable grey is very warm Greige. Some light and it’s gorgeous and some lights and it turns colder.

So you have come full circle and answered your own questions. I would suggest getting some foamcore, painting it and putting up over your backsplash to see if that doesn’t help before you decide to take the tile out. I think your tile looks old and dated; that would be something to consider changing! If it’s in the budget then new countertops.

@User. I absolutely get what you are saying but I dont want to spend money on things I dont love either. I am taking approuch of each item should bring joy. While beige walls and lighter beige tan couch might work for this house - I dont like it. So the colors blend better but I still don’t like the items. And if move - bones of the house stay with the house but furniture goes with me so I want to like that furniture. And in the future replacing countertops and backsplash is in the plan. I ll look into options for replacing flooring just in the kitchen area too. And it so happens my favorite accent color is blue..and green. And definitely no black. We replaced most black furniture with white so not going back to black.

I sampled it. In this house it reads beige with some yellow undertones, not grey.

Whoa... this is not a disaster! There is nothing wrong with liking gray and cool tones; it’s just a preference! It doesn’t matter what the next trend is... it matters what you like and feel most comfortable with! It’s perfectly fine if you need to take your remodeling in stages! Most people would be very happy to live in such a lovely home! You need to step back, reassess what is important here and decide what your next step is! Be reassured that your kitchen looks beautiful and that you can get to were you want to be!

The funny part is I always liked “white and grey” cooler ”trend” before it was a trend. But all houses in the area back than were full blown Tuscany everything. That was all the inventory. And we might of had to move so didn’t change much but now willing too little by little. So yeah i don’t want to spend money on beige stuff to blend it. Even if warm comes back, it’s not something i liked before nor now. I would rather do renovations slowly. Little by little. I dont Get what’s so unreasonable about ppl doing renovation.

I wouldn’t redo floors in the house just the kitchen. Hardwood is very nice and just continue some similar into the kitchen. I love How light grey walls contrast against brown hardwood. Rest of the house bones dont need work., bathrooms are white grey and blue, trims white in the house etc so nothing needs to be touched but redo the kitchen area. Like inspiration pic. They incorporate warm and cold beautiful and it blends in with more light but still older fashioned look.

We have BM mascarpone cabinets and trim and BM light pewter walls and I really love them together-I think it’s very possible.

Looking at this pic made me feel better. It’s same alabaster and Agreable grey and my first reaction was how nice. But than when I look closer, cabinets are off white too and some appear much whiter than others and not as bright as little corner with the wall trim. Also Agreable looks different on each angle - beige on top of cabinets., blue on the side, grey on another side. The backsplash and countertop seems to work great and exact wood floor that our house has is in the kitchen pic. So alabaster and Agreable can lead to a nice finished product.
