Need help choosing exterior color for colonial w brick/siding
Comments (5)Hi there, We haven't done it yet, but I still want to. I actually found a neighborhood near here (tipped off by my neighbor who's been thinking of doing this for ten years but has yet to pull the trigger) where there are tons and tons of houses like ours, most painted a single color. They look great. And it's in a very fancy area, which I think explains the greater prevalence of doing this than my specific neighborhood, which is nice but not ritzy (since painting the brick adds a lot of $$). I took pictures of some of these houses, which I'm happy to post. I think it's important though to hire a really really good painter, and to shell out the extra $ for good paint. I've seen some crappy jobs and it's not worth it....See MoreSpanish colonial - help me update my (too dark) bedroom
Comments (5)deegw -- I kept looking at that picture of my room from your reply, and coudn't figure out where or when I moved that rug (my photos are from different years and there's been a variety of rugs in there. ) Then I realized you photoshopped it in -- cool trick. You make a good point, about adding color back in, too. But do you think that just painting the back wall white will be enough to lighten the room? I feel I still have to deal with the dark cabinets in the dark side of the room. loobab - thanks for the tips about size of painting related to to wall. Yes, it's my utilitarian makeup table and it's grown unwieldy over time. In reality, I hate clutter. I need a vanity with storage and much better lighting, and a curvy mirror sounds perfect. The space there is narrow. Probably one of those little backless chairs that can slide completely below the table when not in use....See MoreSpanish colonial home needing lots of work...where to start?
Comments (14)Let's see if I can revive this old thread. Finally getting some exterior work done next month. To start, i'm removing the 2nd floor awnings completely as I'm upgrading those windows to Milgard Tuscany casement windows in bronze color. I've decided to stick with the awning over front door - I'm not in a place to put something more permanent and the shade it provides is useful. I plan to choose a color thats similar to the terra cotta roof tiles. Lastly I want to repaint both the maroonish front door and steps. I'm thinking of matching the door with color of new Milgard windows but I don't know how to match the color. I found a thread here where a Milgard rep provided a color match for Benjamin Moore but I want to go with a better paint. Any ideas on how to best achieve this? I think I'll repaint the steps either gray, tan, or lighter red clay color. Landscaping will probably stay as-is for now. Would love to get this communities thoughts! Things I most would like get are feedback on are paint and awning colors I've mentioned and ideas on how I'll color match the Milgard vinyl bronze window...See MorePlease help!
