I need so much help with my 1916 craftsman bedroom!
Comments (26)HI Juliekcmo, I have electrician coming in a couple of weeks. I will ask about putting outlet there but that window faces a busy street and only the center bottom window opens (by design). So it's really not as nice as it appears to be. The whole upper window is a transom window and I doubt it's opened in 50 years and it's a very poor design as it's way too huge to be a transom window. I love the idea of the bed on this wall and it really would open up the room but I think there are too many things against it. knowing all of that, would you still try to get the bed in front of the window? thank you!!!!...See MoreFront door - Craftsman trim or not with a stone entry?
Comments (7)LV, I bet you didn't plan on getting an education in architectural styles when you asked your question did you :) Anyway, in response to your question. It sounds like you have a specific style that you like and I do not think the stone around the door is going to achieve the look you are going for. I think I would stick with the other option that you listed at the end of your post: I'm also considering dropping the stone here to shorter wainscot height (same as garage and elsewhere), and doing siding above that and around the door, so that the white craftsman door trim would be siding instead of stone. Here's an example I found that achieves the look you described in the text above: http://luxurydecor.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/220817187959365876.jpg I would keep the rock at the same level as the rest of the house. I think you'll end up with a far better look. Here's an example I found of a house with both trim and rock around the door. http://www.livingandlearningwithluisa.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Craftsman-Cottage-Home-Exterior-1024x681.jpg It's not a craftsman door like your's but at least it may give you some idea of the look of rock and trim around the door way. In the end it really comes down to what you like. We are building as well and if you are like us you've been pinning ideas for at least a couple of years. As new options come up I am having to ask myself "will this change the look of our house in such a way that it no longer has the aspects that drew us to it to begin with" I hope I've been some help. Best of luck....See MoreHelp with small center hall colonial with no foyer/entryway
Comments (21)Hi Maureen! It is wall mounted. I think it has 4 screws in the back. It does not interfere with our base moldings. I love that the depth is perfect. Ikea has a tall one and a wider one. Just search "hemnes shoe" on ikea and you can see what is available. They hold a ton of our shoes as well as keys, mail etc. I have the wide one in our kids basement are and the tall one in the living room. The backs are mostly open with two support bars that go across that may or not interfere with your moldings. You would have to measure up to see where your molding comes in play. I would be happy to measure the height of the two support bars if you would like. We also used a coat tree in the corner of our living room....See MoreHelp! NO Curb Appeal on our Colonial, what can we do?!
Comments (58)All great points NHbabs! Thank you. We will have to see how quickly the boxwood grow, but can plan to trim them each year if needed. The Arborvitaes may have actually all died over the winter, so we will have to wait and see if they come back and if not perhaps replant new ones further apart or plan to have them topped each year. Once again, thank you!...See MoreKathleen Cox
