Laundry Room Home Repair Design Dilemma

Bifold doors or full access bifold?

Hi! I have a laundry closet and now that my “walking washer” clonked on me, I am replacing it with a non-walking top loader and am contemplating bifold door hardware. The closet is between two walls (do to its location I couldn’t take a head on picture to show the opening). If I get the full access bifold hardware, is it worth it or will my door only be able to stack on the side like normal due to the wall/doorway on either side? I searched YouTube unsuccessfully for videos showing doors opening. I appreciate it!!

Between the wall on one end & the door on the other end, full access hdwe won't do you any good. You don't have the wall space needed for the doors to fold in front of.

Opening is 90 inch wide so each bifold is about 23 inch. Thanks!

Hi, I'm revamping a miserable-looking attached house here on the west coast and was hoping to use bifold instead of sliding doors for access to the outside. There are different qualities of bifold doors so you might want to go to a good door store and see how they felt. I have a combination of closet door styles in my home. Sliding doors (IMO) work best with relatively wide closets and even then I am sometimes frustrated a bit when I need to slide back and forth. In my bedroom I also like that they function as really good full length mirrors - as well as providing a mirror image of my views. Bifolds work well because I have complete visibility and access to the entire closet and obviously the function where a swinging door would impede egress.

Mark, funny comment. after a lot of searching, I found what I thought was a good pick for bi-fold doors. (for my laundry closet. no room for reg. doors) Home Depot had solid oak bi-fold doors. Apparently they are out of stock. right now I've got those hollow louvered doors and they are crap. thinking I may have to have someone make something because I can't find any suitable replacements.

We had louvered doors on all of our closets and switched them out. There was only one closet that we noticed a ventilation issues and we cut a hole and installed a vent. It's painted the same color as the wall and you can't even tell it's there.

That niche does not look bad. It would be easy to fit in two slim cabinets on either side of the machines to hide the dryer vent and supplies. Unless that is in an area that guests will always see, I would not go through the hassle of doors. Maybe some art on the wall and leave it as it is. The area looks very clean and spare.

A full width roller curtain, mounted above the opening on the inside, would give you access to the sides while being able to close off the niche while not in use.
