Can I replace bi-fold louvered doors with solid bi-fold doors?

We're about to embark on a full remodel of the main floor of a 40-year-old townhouse. Currently there is cheap, builders grade painted trim, and there are bifold louvered doors on the entry closet and a storage closet that is under the stairs.

I want to use natural maple trim throughout and to have simple one or two panel, more contemporary looking, Shaker style doors throughout. Can I install non-louvered doors to replace the louvered, or will there be problems with lack of ventilation? This is humid Florida, but we'll have the AC on when it's really hot and humid.

Also, the guy who is doing the project for us used to live in Europe. He mentioned that there they will often do something like drilling decorative holes in the solid doors to give some ventilation.

Thoughts on non-louvered doors as a replacement?
