Should I remove or replace this window? Sloped ceiling!
Comments (26)Hi Stoveguyy, The outside is boarded up where the old fireplace unit was. Can you see the concrete slab from the photo? I recently noticed that my fireplace is not even centered in the room, and cannot be moved because we added an Egress window to the basement, right underneath those 2 long windows. Can you see the well in the photo? Any ideas about a new fireplace style, or adding a window to each side? Happy Thanksgiving!...See MoreRemove & Replace Bathroom Tile
Comments (5)I am not a pro, but have done my own DIY tile work (including floors, wall tile above tub, and full shower including pan and walls). I found it helpful to pick up and read a few books on setting tile so I could be walked through techniques. What you set the tile on is very important because an unstable surface will result in problems (tile or grout cracking, even tile falling off the wall). I found these books useful. Tile Your World - John Bridge Setting Tile - Michael Byrne I believe your wall tile is set on a mortar bed. That means you have some metal lathe (mesh) and then a thick bed of mortar over top of that. Then the tile is set over top of that. You seem to be doing quite a bit of damage to the mortar as you are removing tile. Your tile actually looks quite nice to me at least. Classic white 4x4. I had this same construction on the walls above a tub. I tore it all out down to the studs and then installed cement board and waterproofing before tiling. The original tile in my bathroom was white with harvest gold speckles (to coordinate with the gross harvest gold tub)....See MoreReplacing radient ceiling heat old thermostats
Comments (10)If the breaker is 15 amps, the heater is most likely rated no more than 12 amps. That said, it's not a great idea to use a thermostat rated right at the heater's running current. An overrated thermostat will be more reliable. FWIW, speaking of reliability, I tried electronic (digital display) baseboard heat thermostats 20 years ago. I replaced them all with good old fashioned mechanical thermostats within a few years, after some failed. No failures since. I hope you find that the newer electronic thermostats are more reliable....See MoreHow to replace old NuTone intercoms on back porch?
Comments (3)I used to have one of those! Are you placing a battery operated speaker in the space behind the existing speaker cover? I love retro, so if that's what you're doing, I'd just put the bluetooth in place then replace the plastic front of the existing Nutone cover after removing the guts attached to it. If you're not into that, you can build a little frame and cover it in speaker grill fabric and attach it to the wall as the NuTone was attached....See Morestrategery
