Adobe can be any color. Original colors were taken from natural plants, soil, ground rock and whatever the adobe base is. There is a wonderful museum in NM which is an old original adobe home. Each room is a different color with the names of plants, etc. that were used. I loved the turquoise room, but each room was bright and cheered imagination. Oddly I don't remember the fireplaces. Agree with painting the bookcase the same color as wall. The tile is beautiful, it looks handmade. Agree also to use one of the tile colors, there are some wonderful tans showing up and like the grout color. This may take a bit of color swatches to go with the walls since the tans in tile look a bit pink. But individual monitors can change color hues. Great project.

I'm afraid I do see purplish undertones in the Nevermore. I could be imagining it. No. Not imagining the purpleness in Nevermore. Thinking in terms of undertones will only make it more difficult to truly see color for what it is. Things become much clearer - and easier - when you understand that every color belongs to a hue family and undertones are something completely different. Just like LRV, there is a data point for hue family. Once we identify hue family, we can then plot (either physically or just in your head) the color on a color wheel. Like I did in the infographic below. You can see the yellow circle highlights the PB or purple-blue hue family. Do you see where Nevermore Grey is plotted? It belongs to the B or blue hue family and 'lives' overnear the purple-blue hue family. That's why you are seeing overtones of purple. Nothing's hidden or "under" anything. The color simply belongs to the blue hue family over near purple-blue and it's obvious to you. Everything is starting to look blue to me except the Software. Maybe it's because of all the blues around it. Software looks sort of brown in comparison so that's why I was reluctant to give it a chance. When you know what hue family a paint color belongs to, the other colors around it become less influential - because you have a conscious, objective reference for hue. I plotted the other three colors you're now considering so you can see where they 'live' within their hue family. Now, you can compare on TWO data points, LRV and hue family. Here's a list of color data points: hue family, value, chroma, and LRV. When you string all of them together, it's called a color notation. A color notation is an objective second opinion that helps you analyze color. In this infographic, you can see the color notation directly under each color name. Hope that helps. Something I learned here is that when you can't match the backsplash tile to the counter, match it to the cabinets. That doesn't mean it has to be boring. I'm assuming the stove is on the back wall, hidden from the main view, and since that's the typical focal point, you might want the tile to provide more interest than you usually see with elaborate cabinets. You have strong shapes in the cabinets and in the plank floor, so I think you just want a little touch of something special. I'd like a square tile at the counter and a subway above it. I love how this bottom row of squares is built out. The field tile is actually squares, which would be very traditional and give you a bit of relief from all the rectangles, but it could also be done with subways above. It would be pretty with all cream tiles too. I think squares at the counter need something to separate them from the subway field tile. They used multi-colored 1" mosaic here, with a very subtle touch of black. With mosaics, you can pop out tiles and sub in others to control the color. Because there's a lot of lighter colors, it doesn't look like a black racing stripe around the room. Often a pencil liner is used but I wouldn't recommend a solid black liner. This would be a pretty transition from your black counters to cream subways. The faded black tiles would pull in the gray floor too. This is gorgeous where they used long subways at the counter, a row of natural stone mini mosaic, and 2x6 subways above. You have to click on it to see the details. You can see that this is a busy kitchen but the layering of tiles doesn't make it too much. I hope you and your tiler knows not to tile your side splashes. I don't know what that counter piece is along the one wall. Maybe it's just resting there.

Ok, coley, what do you think about the suggestions you’ve gotten so far? If you prefer rectilinear tiles, that’s fine, but it would be helpful to know. What I see in your inspiration images is white cabinets with bs tile that is cream, white, or grey. If you want alternatives, then order some tiles in cream and white, and try some other grays.
