I’m having trouble choosing a backsplash for my kitchen. Help!
I don’t want anything too trendy but I don’t want blah. I’m trying to keep a light and airy feel. I’m not sure if the marble is too white and cold. I have a barn wood hood similar to the color of the flooring.

Comments (6)Terible (I feel funny writing that name ;-) ) - We wanted the bling to come in through the granite. That's why either Bianco Antico or Cafe Imperial appeals to me - they have sparkle. I was also considering mini crystal chandeliers as pendants for a more luxurious aspect. The kitchen opens up to the family room which we are redecorating (new furniture, paint, carpet, etc) when we redo the kitchen. Comments (11)I realized it was granite after I posted and held the notebook closer! lol Using hex tiles would be interesting too, but square would look fine also. Have you glanced through the FKB? Comments (7)The one on the far left is marble? I think it might not be the best over a larger space with the different “pattern”from you granite. The others seem a bit stark to me. Your granite looks like what I have seen called river white granite. You might find inspiration pictures by searching into that. Also I'm not getting much of an idea about what your backsplash space looks like. It can make a difference how much backsplash you have as bigger tiles or patterns may not show to advantage if there isn’t much backsplash....See Moreherbflavor

The truth is you don’t have the right tile yet. Your counter is relatively quiet with little color or movement, so you have the opportunity to choose an eye catching tile, but you’re limiting yourself to shades of gray subway tiles.
You want a timeless look, so you may want to maintain a neutral color space, but there are so many color options that still read neutral. Perhaps lean on the barnwood color a bit. Maybe choose a shaped tile to liven things up. Can you show us the inspiration images you’ve been using for your kitchen? Also, what is the counter material?

3 years agoAgreed, the middle tile in your post is much more consistent with the looks you like than either of the others. I can’t really figure out what white marshmallow cream is, but you either want to match that color or the background color in your counter material - what is the counter material? Then choose a shape that you like.
