Comments (7)It's great for vegetables and potatoes--just be sure that the pieces are about the same thickness. Wonderful for making grilled cheese sandwiches or French Toast, or for grilling the frozen Texas Toast. A tip--if you use parchment paper to line the grill (top and bottom), your food will stay more moist AND you'll have a much easier clean-up. Comments (19)I like a little teriyaki added to perk it up otherwise prefer just a rub. I like the skin to be crisp so I don't douse it with sauces and stuff while cooking. You should avoid sugary sauces while grilling chicken anyway. The sugar burns long before the chicken is cooked. Season it, cook it up and add the sauce at the end. Use your favorite seasonings - a basic rib rub works fine, or use spices you like and make your own. Other variations of the ketchup and cola are using chili sauce, BBQ sauce, Dr. Pepper, beer, root beer, etc. You can also doctor it up a bit for better flavor. Add your favorite seasonings, Worcestershire sauce, Teriyaki, soy, etc. For something really different there's the mayo based saucing. Some just use a basic coleslaw dressing. I've played with a variation and have one that's pretty good and has a little zing. Cynic's Variation of White Trash BBQ Sauce 2 cups mayonnaise 1 cup apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup apple juice 2 tsps (+/-) prepared horseradish 2 tsps fresh ground black pepper (see notes) 2 tsps fresh lemon or lime juice 1 tsp kosher (or sea) salt (see notes) 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper or Chili powder Combine all ingredients in a very large bowl. Season your chicken and grill or bbq it as you like. When it's done, take that hot, smokey chicken and dunk it in the bowl of white sauce, turning to coat. Serve immediately with your favorite sides. For me it was vastly superior to the slaw dressings but still pretty boring so I tweaked it with some lemon pepper, bacon salt (cutting the other salt), Italian Seasoning, smoked paprika, cumin, celery seed, garlic powder and onion powder and it was much better. As with any condiment it's subject to taste so add, subtract, multiply and divide to your preference! Comments (7)Walnutcreek, I think that's an excellent idea. We all have methods of doing things that may help each other make things easier. Just a suggestion, but every once in a while I think it'd be fun to have a "theme" day. Like having everyone who wants post their favorite soup recipe, or cake, or whatever. Comments (21)Thank you, gazania for that easy-rhubarb cake. I copied Jasdip recipe (thanks Jasdip!), will make it tonight ... I'm out of The Spice House's tandoori spice, better make it my own. I usually add home-grown tomatoes to the tandoori, since I don't have plain yogurt. I made oatmeal pancake many times before, used lots of baking powder to lighten that up. The result? BAD after-taste of bitterness (from too much baking powder). I use overnight-yeast-raise-idea to make it FLUFFY, without much baking powder. Overnight-oatmeal-pancake: The night before: Microwave 1 and 2/3 cup water for 1 min., test with finger .. it should be warm, but NOT hot. Mix water with 1/2 teas. of yeast, 2 Tablespoon sugar, 1/2 teas. salt, 1/4 cup light olive oil. Let it sit while you mix the dry ingredients in a separate bowl: 1 cup white-whole-wheat flour, 1/2 cup GROUND flax meal, 1 plus 1/2 cup old-fashion-oatmeal, 2 teaspoon cinnamon. With an egg-beater, stir wet-yeast-solution with dry ingredients for less than 3 min. Cover and let it sit at room temperature overnight up to 12 hours, less if the weather is warm. In the morning wash and microwave for 2 min. a pack of frozen blueberries (12 oz) until berries are soft. Beat 3 eggs until fluffy (3 min.), then blend in the eggs & blueberry & 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or walnut, plus 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, plus 1/2 cup milk or applesauce to thin out the batter. Use a brush to brush olive oil on THICK FRYING PAN. Pre-heat pan on medium-low heat, and drop dough to make pancakes. About 2 to 3 min. on each side. THICK pan is a must, since flax seed browns easily. The secret of good taste is to buy FRESH white-whole-wheat flour ... it's much milder & better taste than whole wheat....See Morecooper8828
