New House, New Roof, what’s next for curb appeal?
Comments (39)"It sounds kind of silly, but it looks like it belongs in front of a more contemporary house. It's too modern for my house! " I find this a very odd notion :-) There is nothing particularly contemporary in style about a Japanese maple. They have been planted in Japan for thousands of years. With the right complimentary plantings, there is a cultivar suitable for any style of architecture! I would opt for a JM over messy, deciduous ornamental grasses any day of the week!! Especially for an entry garden. "If weed killer was sprayed, you can’t plant anything or will have to replace dirt around each planting." Just an FYI but this is not at all true. Most herbicides/weed killers retain minimal viability in the soil - they have to interact with growing plant tissue/foliage to be effective - and you can generally replant the area within a couple of days. The product label will always provide this information....See MoreWhite brick with dark gray/black fascia and soffits.
Comments (20)Thanks for everyones comments. The preparations of the exterior along with weather have delayed the painting and I'm still trying to finalize the brick and trim colors. I mention BM Dove White for the brick but am also considering a few others such as; BM Dove Wing, BM Seapearl, BM China White and BM Swiss Coffee. I have a lot of trees and bushes so want the color to read white in the sun and shade but not overly white or creamy. Thanks for your input....See MoreGutter + Soffit + Fascia Color for Century Home?
Comments (4)I hired a carpenter to make wooden storms for a rental property (because I wanted to replicate the mid century muntin pattern of the windows). Then I took them to a glass shop for the glass, and then I painted them. They were not too expensive, and if you use a rot-resistant wood (like cedar or Douglas fir) and maintain the paint, they should last for a long time. You could even make them yourself if you are at all handy....See MorePeach brick, standard 2 story - need colour advice for soffit & fascia
Comments (4)Your brick is very pretty and warm. Blues and greens look nice with peach (which I like BTW). Here's a prior discussion on peach brick with a photo of what was chosen, Trim: SW Mega Greige and doors and shutter are SW Gauntlet Gray. Has a lot of blue in it. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/1694870/need-help-with-trim-color-for-this-odd-peach-orange-brick...See Moreannefortunetroutman
