Anyone Have Cataract Surgery?
Comments (52)The surgery is really simple, isn't it? As I mentioned above, I had both my eyes done last December. I have monovision -- one eye for distance and the other for closer. I've had a hard time adjusting to it and if I were to do it again, I would go for the very best distance vision and wear readers at the computer or when reading. I had to get glasses to help "even out" my distance vision. I was hoping I would not have to wear glasses after the surgery, other than readers. The glasses I got are bifocals. I can actually get by okay without the glasses, but I do feel a little eyestrain and slightly off balance. I also have to have the YAG laser procedure as there is some clouding resulting from the surgery. That will happen in May. Almost everyone I know who got simple monofocal lenses for distance is very happy with their result. I wish I were one of them. I would NEVER get the Restor multifocals. Too much risk. My night vision is greatly improved and I am happy with that....See MoreCataract surgery and paint colors!
Comments (6)My husband and I had troubles finding the right yellow for our renovation because he had his lens replaced in both eyes due to cataracts. Before the surgery, we agreed. After the surgery he sees everything with a "bluer" tinge. Not noticable normally, only with "pure" color tones. He strongly dislikes greens, so when I showed him what I perceived as pure yellow tones for a nice, bright kitchen/dining area, he saw a green tinge to them. I needed to go with a more tan-ish yellow to get him to like the combo against our knotty pine ceilings! I ended up choosing a color called "Cornmeal". Ironic in that I am deathly allergic to corn! (He does say I look better with the new eyes.....;)...See Morecataract surgery anyone?
Comments (37)haha....don't think you will need more than 5 mg Valium LOL. I am a retired RN and I can assure you it is plenty. Your MD will make sure you are comfortable and they ask you to tell them how you are and adjust accordingly. I chatted with the anesthesiologist and the surgical RN ( they were friends) for the whole first part...you will be GOOD. Stop worrying. If you look up Vicodin and codeine you will see they are both part of the opioid family and that Vicodin is the most strong of the two. Look at the side effects of Vicodin and there you have it. The most common side effects of Vicodin include lightheadedness, dizziness, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, drowsiness, constipation, headache, mood changes, blurred vision, ringing in your ears, dry mouth, and difficulty urinating.Apr 25, 2015 Side Effects of Vicodin (Hydrocodone Bitartrate and ... - RxList www.rxlist.com/vicodin-side-effects-drug-center.htm As it happens an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen combined with Tylenol ( 2 of each) taken every 12 hrs will give you MUCH more relief as the opioids only mask a problem and do not stop the inflammation that is causing the problem . Too bad that so many MD's reach for the high powered narcotic rather than the OTC that is actually doing something and is cheaper and way fewer side effects. Not sure about the insistence on unbalance etc with mono-vision. When prescribed by the Opthamologist it isn't a random occurrence as suero is describing. It is a very well thought out ratio. I won't say any thing further but it certainly doesn't lead to unbalance etc or forcing of the eyes...it is extremely subtle and the brain gets used to it almost immediately except in a small percentage of cases. Enough said :) Good Luck and you WILL be fine. c...See MoreExperience with cataract surgery?
Comments (15)Thanks all for your feedback, it's great to hear real life experiences. I tried monovision contacts in 2007 and was not able to tolerate them per my paper chart and ophthalmologist yesterday. I do not remember this but he read his note to me. I have worn multi focal contact lenses for many years and realize the trade offs that are made with them. Either distance vision is good or close up--take your pick. I also know that the prescription that the doctor thinks will be the best fit isn't always the one that the vision is best with. So that scares me in having something implanted that may not be the exact correct lens. It was good to hear that so many of you opted for a single vision lens. If I did not work basically 13 hour shifts in a very dry hospital environment I would be able to wear my contacts the majority of my waking hours. On my off days I am able to wear them for 6-12 hours. I do have one eye cauterized and a tear duct plug in the other for the dry eyes. My glaucoma drops irritate the eyes as a side effect also. I would love to be able to get a pair of glasses that did not have thick expensive lenses in them. I have always looked younger than my age and the younger RN's think I'm lying when I tell them how old I am, it also helps I was mid 30' s when I had my daughters. I feel glasses make me look older with my current hairstyle. Picture not of me but from Style at a Certain Age blog. I look similar to this with a little more black in my hair. http://www.styleatacertainage.com/skin-care-regimen-prescriptives/ Thanks all for your thoughts. Keep them coming. I will definitely keep all updated when I do something....See Moredeegw
