Question about cataract surgery. Here we go again.
Comments (14)Thanks so much for this info. Happyladi, that is SO helpful! I like to hear of first-hand reports from someone who has actually had the ReStor lenses. On the web, I have found more comments of dissatisfied results than good ones, although I think people tend to report back more if they are unhappy. I guess millions of people have accommodated to reading glasses, so I can, too. All my life I have had to contend with my nearsightedness. My array of eyewear is mind boggling. Regular glasses, prescription sunglasses, contact lenses, readers for over the contact lenses and regular sunglasses for over the contact lenses. Plus, carrying contact lens solution, lens container and my regular glasses just in case I need then while wearing my contacts. I had to wear contacts while skiing because the goggles didn't fit over my glasses. On the other hand, when snorkeling the water magnifies things so I could see fine without glasses. Of course, I had to have glasses handy for when I got out of the water!! For those of you with good eyesight, count your blessings!...See MoreCataract Surgery
Comments (27)My situation is probably different because of my astigmatism. Others may have better outcomes. I am unhappy with the Toric lens I had implanted Sept. 26. I was told I needed this special lens to correct my astigmatism. It didn't correct the astigmatism. I will still need to wear glasses full time. (I see 'shadow' images. For instance, each letter on a street sign has a blurry shadow of itself to the right. You sometimes see this when a newspaper or magazine is printed with the different colors not properly aligned. They are 'out of register'.) I'm out $1245 for this special lens, and, of course, have lost the eye's natural ability to change focus, near to far. I'm not having the left eye done, as I had planned. I've recently had two people comment that they were told by doctors that they *needed* cataract surgery, but have did not have it, and subsequently were told by other doctors that their cataracts were not serious enough to warrant surgery. Everybody HAS cataracts eventually, but I'd urge people to consider for themselves if theirs *require* surgery. I do have more light IN the operated eye, but I don't see an enormous difference. I think I was persuaded to act prematurely. (I'm 72.) This is a quick, very safe procedure for a surgeon to perform, and Medicare pays for single-distance lens surgery. I imagine there is a profit on 'special' lenses too....See Morecataract surgery both eyes same day anyone ....?
Comments (14)It's me again..... I had the cataract surgery a week ago on ONE eye! Couldn't believe how the pre- surgery prep that morning took longer than the 10min. surgery itself & I was home in 3 hrs.! No, I didn't have the eye covered at all but did use the plastic eye covering while sleeping for a few nights to protect the eye in case I tried to rub it while asleep. I was surprised (& a bit disappointed! ) though that I didn't immediately see the drastic change as I walked out of surgery that so many had described- but guess my vision wasn't as impaired by the cataract as others had. Yes, the two different drops are not fun and they decrease gradually over the course of a month- & then I will have it to do over again for the other eye ... and then, go for a regular eye exam to be fitted for glasses to correct for the regular vision problem I had before the cataracts! I do want to wear the glasses all the time & not have to fiddle looking for them when I want to read something! My brother-in-law couldn't put the drops in his eye after surgery.. as each time he got close to the eye, it would involuntarily SHUT!!! .... so his wife had to administer the drops to his eye as he held it open! I read that as generations now live longer, that it is almost a 100% chance that everyone will develop cataracts, & in the sunny southwest: pterigiums, as Nature tries to protect the eye from the sun's rays. Thanks for all of your thoughts & encouragements ... the first surgery was a 'breeze' & glad I decided out of the cheaper ('two for the price of one' by my insurance) but ?riskier surgery (I have had herpes eye infections in the past!! ) -Vieja...See Morecataract surgery anyone?
Comments (37)haha....don't think you will need more than 5 mg Valium LOL. I am a retired RN and I can assure you it is plenty. Your MD will make sure you are comfortable and they ask you to tell them how you are and adjust accordingly. I chatted with the anesthesiologist and the surgical RN ( they were friends) for the whole first part...you will be GOOD. Stop worrying. If you look up Vicodin and codeine you will see they are both part of the opioid family and that Vicodin is the most strong of the two. Look at the side effects of Vicodin and there you have it. The most common side effects of Vicodin include lightheadedness, dizziness, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, drowsiness, constipation, headache, mood changes, blurred vision, ringing in your ears, dry mouth, and difficulty urinating.Apr 25, 2015 Side Effects of Vicodin (Hydrocodone Bitartrate and ... - RxList www.rxlist.com/vicodin-side-effects-drug-center.htm As it happens an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen combined with Tylenol ( 2 of each) taken every 12 hrs will give you MUCH more relief as the opioids only mask a problem and do not stop the inflammation that is causing the problem . Too bad that so many MD's reach for the high powered narcotic rather than the OTC that is actually doing something and is cheaper and way fewer side effects. Not sure about the insistence on unbalance etc with mono-vision. When prescribed by the Opthamologist it isn't a random occurrence as suero is describing. It is a very well thought out ratio. I won't say any thing further but it certainly doesn't lead to unbalance etc or forcing of the eyes...it is extremely subtle and the brain gets used to it almost immediately except in a small percentage of cases. Enough said :) Good Luck and you WILL be fine. c...See Moregmom74
