What goes with chocolate brown?
Comments (2)Skibee, I saw you posted this in HDF, but I'm answering you here. Basically it's what doesn't go with a very dark brown - your options are broad. How do you want the room to feel - making that determination will help. If you want a serene peaceful room, you could consider aquas, and a wide range of blues from pastel to steel blue. If you want a fun, hip place then maybe pops of tangerine orange and lime green would meet your needs. Want something exotic, reds/ terracotta and saffrons would work. Comments (12)"we plan to have a family". You don't have that family yet so why not buy a sofa from IKEA that you can buy slipcovers that are made for that sofa? That way you can have the look you want now and add the brown dry cleanable slips when the little ones start to arrive. The brown cover is 87% cotton and 13% polyester, so you could wash it in the washer in cold water with woolite and hang to dry. My uncle used to own a dry cleaners and told me many things that would be washed and how that said dry clean only. If you want to go with one sofa and the day bed you could buy a (used from craigslist) baby bed mattress and crib and make your own. I'm sure it would be very easy to find white baby bed sheets (and maybe even brown these days) for the cover along with some pretty bolster pillows. I linked you to an IKEA sofa that you can get slips for. Including a dark brown. Here is a link that might be useful: IKEA sofa I think would work for this look....See MoreDoes this area rug work with sofas?
Comments (16)I like the rug. I would put the front legs of the two sofas on the rug....maybe a couple of inches. I would bring the corner chair in (upholstered one) so it is just sitting on the rug....could put a floor lamp behind/beside it. Do you really need the wooden chair in the other corner? I would put it somewhere else and bring your plant out of the corner more. Now you could try the ottoman in front of the couch/loveseat or get a smallish coffee table....probably square. I would try the ottoman first. Oh yes, forgot...If you use the ottoman as a coffee table, I would upholster the chair in the same color as the ottoman....you can brighten up things with brighter pillows. One other thing.....would you want to try your rug the other way....just to see what it looks like. I don't know what is behind the green couch you have but with rug the other way, you could have a nice conversation grouping....See MoreArea rug that fills entire room or just couch area.
Comments (3)One photo especially shows the light and dark contrast, which I wouldn't prefer: cause of the walk-through and a room with not ideal 'shape'. I would try a medium toned rug to lessen the stark contrast [of light rug]....See MoreJennifer Hogan
