How to arrange awkward kitchen/laundry combo

Rhonda Toole

Bought this home in 2017. I am finally preparing to paint the cabinets and add a new backsplash. I am open to painting the walls, too. Demo, construction, or adding cabinets is out, due to budget constraints. There isn’t another spot in our tiny home which will accommodate the washer & dryer.

How would you fill the awkward gap between the shelved wall and washing machine? The (unattractive) drain and gas hookup are visible in that corner. I’d also like to cover the view of that outlet and power cable (plus keep my cats from playing with the water lines leading to the water softener!)

Also: Would you remove or leave the shelving?
