I'm trying to think where I've been that those blowing type hand dryers are taped off and not in use. It has to be Costco, I haven't been in any other commercial bathroom.

Liability and lawsuits. That's what tenants are made of. Landlords are reluctant to enter "this" new market. People are no longer playing "nice" or getting along.

Big part of reopening is figuring out what needs to be done, how should it be done, who is going to do it, and who is going to pay for it. Or volunteer to do it, if its a non-business setting. It's easy to overlook the basics if you've always relied on a supply of low-wage or volunteer workers.

Maybe have one wastebasket with a big garbage bag, collect the handwashing garbage ...

... and drop off weekly at the landlord's office (if not too far away)?

If they complain, ask whether they'd prefer that you drop it into the toilet, along with the other paper already going that route.

Often actions achieve more mileage than mere words.

Or possibly as a "Letter to the editor" ... to be then cut out and sent to the landlord ... with a note wondering how they'd like to get an urgent call from the tenant saying that the toilets were overflowing and they must call a plumber (if they can find one working who's unbusy)?

These relationships do need to adapt. I agree about being happy to have the paying tenant. Who else is going to move in right now? But... there may be more to the story. I saw a news story about a bar/restaurant going out of business because the the landlord refused to let them catch up on rent that wasn't paid during Covid. You always wonder if the tenant has been a problem tenant previous to Covid.

I saw a GoFundMe for a restaurant today. They are begging for funds to stay in business. Their restaurant is designed to be sit down and not to go so they decided to close rather than operate in 'to go' mode. I'm sympathetic, but other sit down restaurants around here adapted and advertised it. They need to figure out a 'to go' business model. I'd go try them if they were selling food. I'd even tip extra. I don't think the landlord is going to be happy with them.

Kenns, I think she said that the company doesn't want the used paper towels in the bathrooms, but rather prefers they go into various other waste baskets next to desks.

We own various properties, with small businesses included in the mix.

So, I see both sides. One can’t assume that a landlord had unlimited income

and should cover costs in every new scenario.

Speaking of garbage: we have a building that includes four stores and five apartments. There is a dumpster on the side if the building for the tenants garbage. We are responsible to waste pickup. The deal DH made with the businesses was that they could use the dumpster, but only right before pick up.

This way they were over crowding and not leaving room for the tenants by letting tenants dump first. On more than one occasion one store kept filling up the dumpster. She was caught on camera, and was told to follow the rules or not use our dumpster.

The list goes on.
