Transition between 2 different rooms with the same tiles- help please!

I am working on refreshing areas of a friends house. The entire first floor has this burnt sienna tile. I’d like to separate out the laundry room and bathroom so I’m not held to the tile color when updating the rooms with paint but there’s no good transition strip or line in between rooms so I’m unsure of how to move forward. Little to no budget so I don’t want to tear out tiles and lay others down- ideally I would paint the existing tiles. Thoughts on how to solve?? Thank you!!!

I see no reason to use transitions just the fact they are a different room and their use is different is all you need to choose a different wall color. That tile color will always drive the wall color in each space so maybe just a different shade insted of a completely new color.

Totally agree with above.

Find a color that you want to use and then look at the strip of different shades of that color (lighter, darker) and choose it for the other room. They will be from the same color family and give you a different look.

Definitely the Indian River. Your material selections sound similar to mine, and at least from my monitor, Indian River looks similar to my color (though that's not what mine is). I'm very pleased with the combination. This doesn't show the colors the best, but there's a serious shortage of natural daylight in my bathroom (it doesn't have any exterior walls).

Is there a trim at the top ? - what I mean is does it look like two pieces - a flat main piece and a decorative thinner top. If yes, measure the decorative top height if its 1" or more you can mitre that for the joint. So it's the diagonal bridge between the two. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks, Sophie! We are already too far into this process to go back to the joists, so we are just trying to find a thinner stone that will work for what we want. We did manage to find a 1/2" option, which I think we will go with and just do a threshold reducer in the two doorways to compensate for about a 1" height difference between the rooms. The rot was actually due to a leaking refrigerator left on in the house by the previous owner for over a year when no one was living there. We purchased the house as-is, so we actually knew that this was going to be a problem when we got it. We are doing all the renovations DIY because we can't afford to hire anyone to do them and my father-in-law built a section of his house himself and is helping us. That is good information to know for the future though, thank you!

Sometimes, transitions are simply a fact of life. A good contractor can eliminate or reduce some transitions. But depending on existing conditions that's not always an option. You rarely have the luxury of being able to redo the entire level of the house. So, having small steps is just something you might have to accept. And realistically, if done well, it's not going to be a huge problem. Ask your contractor for suggestions how to make the transition look appealing. It's generally less offensive, if the transition coincides with a door way. So, if you have that option, take advantage of it.

I would not paint tiles, especially in high moisture high traffic areas. It looks great on Instagram for a very short time, then the peeling will start. Far better off either removing the tile or learning to live with it.
