Organizing the Home entry

Need an Entryway Piece

We are moving to this home and it has an extreme lack of storage space on the first floor. I want to find an entryway piece that has storage but isn’t ugly. We have four kids under seven so a place to keep shoes and backpacks organized is ideal. Any alternatives to the tall “locker” storage that is used for shoes/backpacks?

Closet door may be moved to the other side of the wall. Inside the closet will be sports equipment, dog stuff, games, and things I more want to keep hidden.

Second picture is an example of the locker storage I’m referring to but that’s way too big for this space and I feel like it’s too typical. Husband enjoys woodworking and has made pieces for our home before so it can be any color/style if not buyable.

I can't think of anything that will meet your needs that isn't going to look at least somewhat similar to the photo you have posted. There is a reason the locker-type pieces look the way they do. They are great for shoes and backpacks and coats and some sporting equipment.

Move the closet door and build a unit suitable for four children. I would leave out the drawers so shoes could go below. But it is your house and you know your children's needs better than anyone. It is so great you can build it to your specs.

I would make the whole space an enclosed closet. Build in shelves or hooks or whatever you need, but behind doors you can close. Anything else turns your front entry into a mud room.

I actually prefer the symmetry of the two long plates on the doors versus a knob and a lock on one and a knob on the other. We have the second option in the basement as we don't have multipoint doors down there - less expensive option. We used the Baldwin Estate squared off backplate with a simple beaded lever on our upstairs multipoint doors and I really like them - and I am not a lever person! I looked at the Omnia multipoint but I don't like the curved backplate and their squared off one was wider, chunkier and more contemporary looking than the Baldwin one.

You're still going to have to pay for someone to remove the arch for the transom - I'm wondering if you could have someone frame up an arched shelf so you keep the original arch but close it up for privacy. And, having said that, you could also fill the arch in to accommodate a standard glass panel door and hang an arched decorative piece above to mimic the rest of your arches...

That is one huge sectional (recliner?) I suggest a rug...large enough to fill the space and go under the front legs of the sectional. Add a couple of ottomans. For t v wall, maybe something like this from Wayfair? Gets rid of another large piece and makes the wall sleeker. Hey, what if you do this and paint that wall something darker...make it all a focal point.

That IS clever! I have a similar layout and never once thought of just enclosing it (I hate looking at clutter/stuff laying out.)
