Please pardon my temporary MIA rudeness
Comments (4)anisten: Yeah, but what can you do? When you sign up, you KNOW it's piecework, and they make it sound like a decent little job where you make a bit of money for walking around for a few days. When you get your cheque and wonder where the rest of it is, they remind you that you AGREED to do this, and for THIS pay, and you're stuck. Sure, you can say this is All Above Board (it's not like they lie to you...not technically, anyway), but IMO they put a spin on it that makes it sound like a much better thing than it is. When I add up the hours I did last 10 days, all the work and the hassle add up to less than minimum wage. And that was "just" as an enumerator: they needed someone, no one else was available, and good old Merri tries to always be there when someone needs her....but if I had known I would be LOSING money, I would have said "no", just because I simply can't afford the job. If I had used that time and effort and put it into my vegetable garden, I would have made a lot more (paid less for food next winter). As it is, I think I may have made $50 over and above gas costs. =:-( This "supervisor" bit came along via a mix-up; in theory I'll be doing the non-complaint thing just like you...except I'll be the one to BLAME when people go ballistic. Oh, SPIFFY! >:o( I've met literally dozens of people who were doing the census before or were doing it now (supervisory and non-supervisory both), and every single one says the same thing: no WAY would I do this again! Personally, I agree. I've asked my DH to remind me next census of what I went through THIS time. That should be enough...and in case it ain't, I've taken pictures. Some lessons are sure learned the hard way. Sigh. A slightly gloomy and sleep-deprived - Merricat...See MoreOT: BooHoo :(
Comments (5)They're adorable. Just think of the peace and quiet you'll have now : ) Even I get kind of blue when school starts back up. I get so used to having the kids home all summer and it's lonely when they're not here....See MoreRaven....the pics of Mia reminded me of this little dog...
Comments (4)So cute! There's a girl that has done a lot of you tube videos of her little dog that could be an identical twin to Mia. It makes the same faces as Mia and has the same personality. Here are some of the videos they are adorable. I will grab a link...See MoreWhy are my Halcyon MIA?
Comments (6)Nope...lawn doesn't get sprayed and this bed edge is a good distance from the driveway (which doesn't get salt or treatment anyway). I haven't had a chance to go digging around, but it just occurred to me that three Brunnera (Jack Frost) that I planted two years ago that looked fabulous last summer are also MIA. But I'm new to Brunnera and don't know if they would be leafed out by now. We had a decent amount of snow, but not record amounts, and several days of extreme cold -- but I'm not sure that it was record cold. One thought: would ants do this? We had underground ant nests in this area a few years ago and sprayed for that. I haven't seen any activity and don't know if they would be active over the winter and early spring....See Moreravencajun Zone 8b TX
