Advice on pendant lighting of kitchen island

Looking for advice on pendant lighting over kitchen island. Kitchen cabinets are white shaker around the periphery with black granite countertops. White subway tile for backsplah with a patterned blue tile behind range hood. Island is Navy Blue cabinets with white quartz counter top. Hardwood floors throughout. Kitchen opens up to livingroom. This is an east coast home. See photo of kitchen rendering . Island is 81" long. I'm told by designer that (2) pendant lights between 13" to 20" dia will work. I really am having a hard time with color and style for the pendant lights. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Put in the recessed cans over the island!!!!!!!

why, because they are VERY easy to convert to pendants if you choose to add them later, and if you dont , you need working light there.

I’m not a huge fan of pendant lights so I might be the wrong person to ask....but if I was going to put them over my island I’d do something that doesn’t stand out and take away from the rest of the kitchen. Something along these lines:

What is your budget per pendant? What color is your cabinet hardware?

I'm not an expert, just enjoy home decor and design. Your kitchen is beautiful. I have a similar cabinet color scheme, stainless appliances, bronze hardware. I choose bronze hardware and pendants because that's what I'm drawn too. I like the warmth of bronze. I read all the time about mixing metals. I'd suggest keeping the same style though. For example not a modern pendant in your traditional kitchen. Good luck and enjoy.

It's so unfortunate that, you have that beam there. If a dome size light is what you're looking for I'd go with a 23-27 inch dome. Other than that, i would use something similar to this picture.

I would not put pendant lights in this space, its smaller, and they will just create more division.

If you really wnat them, what is the ceiling height??? 13- 20 inches is a really big pendant for the scale of this room and what looks to be a low ceiling....

to megs1030 I have not picked out cabinet hardware yet. My budget is $150 to $250 per light. To RL Relocation: My ceiling height is 8'. Maybe that is good advice to not have pendant light in that space. Maybe add something small over the sink would be the way to go. I could go small and less expensive over the sink.

What's the rest of your lighting plan like? Recessed ceiling lights? I'm asking if the pendant lights are needed for the function of your island, or whether they are going to be there to make more of a visual statement.

I will have recessed lightin in the ceiling. I had not planned on putting a row directly over the island. I wanted to add pendant lights for aesthetics. I can probably get away with not having them. Or wouldn't mind a linear light closer to the ceiling, not that I'm more open to not having pendants.

Thanks, I finalized my electrical requirements today and will put in the recessed lights over the island. I am putting a small pendant light above the sink for my kitchen jewlery.. Lol. Adding a 6" dia blue glass pendant from Bicycle Glass co over the sink.
