Nice to meet another old timer. I've been on Gardenweb since the 90s as well. I used to spend most of my time on the Organic Gardening and Soil, Compost & Mulch forums back then, and this forum was part of ThatHomesite, so I didn't visit much.

Been here awhile, don't post much. But I popped on a few minutes after you, so hello! I remember paying Spike $15 for membership and before.....oh for the good ol' days, lol. My kid was in jr high and is turning 35 on Sunday.

Welcome, Sarah! I live on Cape Cod and have been on Gardenweb since the 90's when I had to pay to join and Spike was the sheriff. I'm a retired audiologist married for 42 years to a now retired systems engineer. We met in grad school at Ohio State on the bicentennial in 1976. We traveled for many years to Europe for my husband's work on a NATO defense project and lived several years in the Netherlands. We love Europe. Sadly had to cancel our travel plans for 2020.

I've had a number of serious knock-me-on-my-tush health problems over the past 10 years and my DH has become an enthusiastic and creative cook but I still have to look over his shoulder... After I read my e-mail in the morning I check out the Cooking forum, the Kitchen Table and Home Decorating Conversations.There are so many genuine and generous people here. Every now and then I'll dip my toes into Hot Topics but I usually just lurk. I need to learn how to post photos here. I feel like a dinosaur.

Seagrass, to post a photo, first load a photo to your computer’s photo library. Then click on Photo. A menu will pop up. Choose where your photo is loaded. It should take you to your photo library. Choose the photo you wish to load. Then click “Done.” It is in the upper right hand corner on mine. It should load to the comment. Finish typing your text. Click on Submit.

I drag (or copy/paste) photos out of my photo library onto my desktop. They're easier to find that way. I will also do an image search on the web and then download the image to my desktop, share it here and then delete after it's been uploaded.

Welcome! So glad to have you here. I am a newcomer after a period of lurking. My husband and I are LA natives, happily living on the central coast (Santa Barbara and Cambria). We've been together 30 years (since we were in our teens). We grow our own produce, love to cook, make and drink wine, and travel. I am a CPA and financial executive as well as mom to an 11 year old son, who is learning to cook.

Welcome, Sarah! I too have been around since Spike, and have learned a lot from the various Forums that once were GardenWeb. There are several old-timers that I truly miss, but then new memebrs come along and fill-in. Good to have you here.

Welcome, neighbor. I'm relatively new to GW and very new to the Cooking forum. I live just north of you in Laguna Beach. We recently had an in-person meet-up with several people from SoCal. I wish you could have joined us. Maybe we can have another meet-up once social distancing is no longer necessary.

Another oldie here! I'm English but have lived in Brittany, France for over 30 years. I teach English to adults, we have a small caravan so travel around with that now. I have 3 grandsons and love cooking and eating too much!

Welcome Sarah. I’ve been here since the 90s, although I did take a hiatus when it was a paid subscription site. I live in the south. I have one daughter who is married to a wonderful man (he’s very patient with his MIL and solving her myriad tech problems) and 3 toddler-aged grandchildren, who are, of course, the cutest, smartest children ever. DH and I have been married 30 years. We love(d) to travel and usually have a couple of trips in the planning stages. DH retired about 12 years ago. I sold my book of business last year so that we could travel more 🙃

I love to cook, but I would only rate my skills as “journeyman.” Therefore, I often depend on some of the “masters” here to help me. I find the members of this community to be knowledgeable and patient and to be generous with their time.

ETA: Until CC posted below about the Kitchen Forum, I forgot that is what brought me back here. We ripped the kitchen out of our weekend house when we moved into it full time. After getting lots of help at the Kitchen Forum and installing a much more workable kitchen, I came over here to start cooking in it.

Hi Sarah. I'm another old-timer from the days of Spike. I was on the kitchen forum to plan a remodel and eventually drifted over here. I forget how much time has passed until I see other members' kids are grown up.

I live in Pennsylvania, and have a son and a daughter, and two granddaughters, who live much too far away.

Spike was running the show at the time. He was also the one who once "scolded" me for making a naughty political joke (long before the Hot Topics forum was added). I hope he's on a perpetual vacation, sipping Mojitos, and having the time of his life.

At any rate, welcome Sarah! Jump in whenever the mood strikes. You'll be fine, as long as you refrain from the following topics: 'Sugar in Cornbread;' 'Fresh Garlic vs. Powdered' and particularly 'Food Likes and Dislikes.' Kidding, of course . . . (?)

Welcome, Sarah! I wasn't in the Spike era. I think I came on a little before Annie and Ellery got married. Although I have been briefly on other forums, the two I try to follow the most are Cooking and Harvest. I am a Vietnam era Air Force veteran and like Annie, I was a practicing paralegal and a real estate broker. I live in Indiana, but have lived in several different states and in Japan for four years. I was widowed a little over four years ago and decided to stay on the place despite my late husband wanting me to move to a retirement area. I have chickens, ducks and always a garden. I love to cook and preserve. Oh, I also belong to my local volunteer fire department. Hope you're here to stay and share.

Hello, Sarah. I've not been here as long as many of the members, but I posted on gardening topics before I began lurking here--not with Spike though. I live alone in WV, dogs long gone now, but with one cat. I have extensive gardens, both ornamental and vegetable, and I still manage, at 75, to care for them with a little help. I'm a fair but lazy cook--I demand high quality ingredients, but don't have the patience for complicated recipes. I used to bake bread a lot, but now watch my blood sugar and don't do much baking. Actually, I don't love to cook as much as I love really good food, so am always looking for interesting recipes that aren't complicated but are really tasty. (And healthy--lots of whole grains, beans, veggies and high quality, locally-raised-on pasture meats.)

This has always been a wonderful forum.

Hideho! I think I've been here since about 2000. Hubby and I quit smoking and took up gardening! And cooking from the garden!

We've since moved from our country place with 7 4x8 raised beds into town where we have 1 4x8 and a 10x20' in ground area with fabulous soil!

I'm mostly a lurker here especially now that people have so much time on their hands and a post can go viral in a day!

I am happily cooking a lot of freezable things as my daughter and her wife are expecting twins (Our first grandchildren)!

I've been here since about 2001 and am a retired furniture designer. My sister is a lawyer, however, and she specializes in Texas banking law.

I also live in SoCal (Los Angeles - Westchester neighborhood, between LAX and Marina Del Rey). I lived in Venice before moving to Westchester in 2008. I was in Venice for 15 years, and before that I lived in Culver City. I've also lived in San Francisco, Houston, and Austin and am originally from Texas, but I've lived most of my life in California.

I love Italy also and want to go back. A couple of nights ago I dreamed that my brother and I were on a plane to Italy. It was one of the few dreams in which I actually get to the airport on time and catch a plane, although I've never missed a plane in real life - so far. I want to go back to Europe when Covid is over, especially Greece. I love Greek and Italian food but cook more Mexican food than anything else, partly because that is what I am most used to.

I've met quite a few CF members, and I also made it to the Home Decorating SoCal get together last year in OC.
