Flooring Design Dilemma

White Oak Flooring, Pre-finished with Bona Products?

I am wondering if there is a flooring manufacturer or mill that sells pre-finished white oak flooring using bona products? Specifically 1 coat naturalseal, finished with traffic hd matte? We would like to save ourselves the pain of finishing on site but still have the benefit of knowing the exact treatment on the floors to be able to replicate it in other places in the house (stairs, beams, cabinetry etc.). Does this unicorn product exist??

You can have it custom finished at your local flooring mill.

And just so you know, mills have a hard time working with 2 part products. The stuff used to finish on site is MIXED on site in small batches. Anything used in a mill (that has the capacity) will need to special-order the COMMERCIAL version of the mix. That gets weird and expensive REALLY quickly. Like SUPER WEIRD.

The 'hardeners', once mixed with the finish (the stuff in the BIG container) starts a chemical reaction that doesn't stop. As SOON as you mix the hardener to the finish (like in a VAT sitting in the mill) the 'spray' nozzles (or rollers) have to be monitored. Bona's products (like Loba) go stale inside of a few hours. That means the nozzles have problems, the rollers have issues, the VAT has to be changed out/cleaned, etc.

Bona produces the commercial application stuff (ie. in the mixer in a vat) but that is tough to find on this side of the Ocean. The European market has access to all of this because A. many work with Bona on many things and B. it isn't very far to ship and C. The VOC requirements in Europe are SOOO tough that it only makes sense to have the specialty mechanisms available in the mill.

I personally choose site finished. It is the gold standard of the flooring industry. It is only a few days longer to install and Bona HD cures VERY quickly (5 days or less). It is cheaper in the long run as well.

I wish I had a photo to show you. We used Minwax English Chestnut on our stairs and lower level remodel. It is a rich, deep, true brown with no orange, red, or gray tones. Upstairs, the floors were sanded and given three coats of Bona urethane over no stain. I didn't love the paler color, but the finish wore like iron. On the main floor, we had the existing oak floors sanded and redone, using two coats of Minwax Cherry. Then we put new oak floors in the kitchen and had them matched to the rest. There are companies (Homerwood, Naturally Aged and others) that do custom finished flooring. It would probaby be costly and they likely have minimum orders but you should not need them. There are plenty of companies (Bruce, Hartco, Columbia, Mirage) making and selling prefinished 2-1/4" solid Oak. The bevels might be an issue if your old floor has large bevels. You also might have a hard time finding matte finish but that's easy to change without a sanding mess. After the floors installed it can be prepared and coated with the finish of your choice.

We didn't move in yet so I cannot comment on it 🤷. You might want to do some reading regarding matt finish. Some people complain that is hard to live with finish, because for example foot marks while walking barefoot. I think they are some discussions on houzz regarding that

Thank you Patricia but the floors have to be redone, as repair needed in front of fireplace where a wood burning stove and stone bump out were removed. My husband loves the wood so no chance of covering with drywall. Plus it's a cabin, and paneling is no maintenance. I agree woods don't play well together (even more noticeable when all the furniture and carpeting removed. ☺️
