I have been on these boards so many times looking for advice and photos from what others have done. All the questions and answers have been helpful to me when I have come looking, so I wanted to post photos from today that will possibly help others choose. We are wrapping up our new build and the floor stain choice was today. This is Bona Natural Seal and Bona Nordic Seal on sanded white oak. I believe they put Bona Mega One over the top just for example, but we will be using Bona Traffic HD. I used no filter on the photos, on an overcast morning from different angles. I hope these help someone!

I am posting some final outcome pictures in different rooms and lighting. The above comments are right. I did not pick our stain only from photos, we went to other houses and had samples done. I did look at photo posts to get an idea of what product/color I was looking for as I wanted something a little more custom and different. We went with the Bona Nordic and Traffic HD. We love our floors! They held up to move in with no major scratches.

I guess it could help but honestly unless someone has your exact home with your ecxat light it is still just a guess .

We have newly installed red oak. We want to keep it's natural pale look. We tried the Bona Natural seal but it still does not look like the bare unpolished wood. It seems that the grains are becoming more prominent which I don't like. Currently the grains are very subtle, barely noticed. I also tried the Nordic Seal, but this made the floor hazy and pink.

Carly, please provide source for your floors, exactly what I’m looking for. Also thank you for post and thank you too other posters. I had just had floors done by a floor shop, two years of hospice requires me to redo them, seems a layer can be scraped up with a spackle scraper easily and turned dark ( like cherry wood does in sunlight but this was white oak ). So due to budget going to have to give this a go on my own. These posts priceless. After seeing this post and refinishing parents floor, I want your oak in my house … you did fantastic job.

I have lived in my new house for 15 months and I love the look of my floors - they are easy to decorate with and give the home a warm but "cool" look at the same time. However, I think the maintenance is much harder than what I previously had - natural red oak with a higher sheen. My new white oak floors have 1 coat of Bona Natural Seal and 2 coats of Bona Traffic HD satin. I adore the light color, but every little water spot shows, or a splash of spilled coffee. They are very unforgiving and I can't imagine these floors in a house with kids and a dog. And I do find myself wishing I had done 3 coats of Bona Traffic HD - just to give them more protection.

Yes, we got group 1 white oak and the example looks like quarter sawn. Anyways, the floors are beautiful after the bona Traffic and we are very happy . I was so nervous but now we get compliments on the floor by everyone who see them. Picture doesn't really do justice here

@tkgriff Thanks for sharing the photos. I am interested to Nordic seal on my project as well. What is your installer recommending? 2 coats of Nordic seal & 2 coats of traffic HD ? Also is he recommending abrading between the coats? Any specific fillers recommended for the knots & gaps ? Eager to see what you chose and how it turned out.

We used 1 coat Bona Nordic and 2 coats Traffic HD in Satin.

@tkgriff Love the floor. It has come out very well. By the way, did you use any fillers to fill the knots and gaps between the planks? If so what brand and color was used?

Also did the installer abrade between the seal & finish coats?

Hi Jenn A,

Thank you, I don't know the specific name of it. The builder had choices for us, this or that type of choice. They are 7&1/4 inch baseboards though if that helps.

Hi everyone! My installer did 2 coats of Nordic Seal today. 1 coat in the morning and 1 coat in the afternoon. They're supposed to start the finish tomorrow morning and it is Bona MEGA clear. Do you think there is any major issue with this?

@tkgriff – I love your floors and am thinking about going for much the same look! Out of curiosity what width floorboards did you use (and which manufacturer did you go with)? How are things holding up a ~year later?

Gorgeous! so you did one coat of natural and two coats of HD? what made you decide to go with natural. My installer has Amber i think yhat will be too dark. I asked him to bring natural finish tomorrow, I’m torn between natural and classic. @j

We didn't move in yet so I cannot comment on it 🤷. You might want to do some reading regarding matt finish. Some people complain that is hard to live with finish, because for example foot marks while walking barefoot. I think they are some discussions on houzz regarding that

@J Sk did you use natural sealer or natural stain? When I put the natural stain on my floor it looks gray. Yours looks so light and bright.

@Renee C, my advice: when you test put sealer and finish on top to see how it is really going to look. Don't test just with sealer.
