Kitchen Aid Mixer - Ice Cream Maker Attachment
Comments (3)I have it and it does work well IF the base is very very chilled before you place it in the frozen unit. Also you can't have a warm kitchen. So in Summer, when you usually want to make icecream, you need to find a place in your kitchen that is quite cool. The unit/bucket thaws out pretty quickly. You then take the icecream and place it in the freezer to cure. You can also eat it immediately as soft serve. I got mine free with my mixer as a bonus on Mother's Day during a sale a few years ago. I wouldn't have spent the $100 they were asking otherwise. If you really plan on making much icecream you need to get a real freezer. c...See MoreAttachments to Kitchen Aid Mixer
Comments (14)I don't have the DVSA, but there are many happy users on the KA forum. The big thing for these users is the vertical slicing/shredding, and the DVSA uses the same disks as a KA food processor. I have the vintage cast aluminum pelican head slicer/shredder. It too is a vertical slicer/shredder. The pros to it are: it is almost indescructible compared with the plastic DVSA. It has a large and a small chute opening, compared to the small opening on the DVSA. And the slicing disk is adjustable from thick to thin compared to the need for multiple slicing disks for the DVSA. The cons to the pelican slicer is that there are not a lot of disks available, and it is more expensive than the DVSA....See MoreAnyone have a Blender they LOVE?
Comments (13)Blendtec. Cheaper than Vitamix, easier to use and blends better than Vitamix in the objective tests I saw posted on youtube. Especially if you get the big bottle. I loved my Oster too, till it started to smoke. It really can't do a lot of blending. Blendtec is also LIGHT in weight, you can take it with you on trips/holidays and people do. And it's sturdy, non-bpa plastic. If you're going to buy a Blendtec, you can get it a bit cheaper when they're doing a demonstration in your area, I'd buy the bigger bottle too, which is what I'm going to do next time they're in my area. Here is a link that might be useful: Blendtec Roadshows - buy them there for a cheaper price...See MoreAnyone have a stand mixer that is not KA?
Comments (18)I have a Viking 5-qt. stand mixer that I got for Christmas a few years ago from my DH (and, yes, he is dear to me for getting me a kitchen appliance that I love LOL). I decided on the Viking after my old KA finally bit the proverbial dust. It was a basic 300 watt model that was manufactured about 25 years ago. After having it leak oil from the motor head and having it re-greased and packed more times than I care to recall, I finally realized that it just didn't have enought power to keep up with what my needs are. The Viking was a good fit for me. Since the Viking came out, there have been others to follow suit, like the Cuisinart and Breville. I don't know how they compare to the Viking, but I'm very pleased with it. It is louder than a KA, but that doesn't bother me...as long as it does the job, that's what matters. It is a workhorse. BTW, it's manufactured in the UK, unlike many others, which are manufactured in China. Sometimes you can't get around buying something made in China, but given the choice I would prefer not to....See MorePeke
