What color cabinets for this backsplash/counter combo?? Ideas plz!

We just moved in a little over a month ago and I’m already thinking/daydreaming about how we can update this kitchen. The counters and backsplash were just updated in the past year by the previous owners and although they wouldn’t have been my first choice I’ll just have to work around it and update the rest to my liking...and im sure my husband would think I’m crazy if I asked him to change them 😅 (I’m really glad they did update tho!)

so my question and what I’ve been stumped with is what color cabinets would go with this combo we’re working with? Besides white! (ive seen two tones tho and the top cabinets could be white but I don’t want the bottoms to be white bc #kids lol)

also am I crazy to think this combo is kind of weird? Like both the counters and the backsplash are basically grey and it just seems too much grey!

definitely intend to change the floors btw (and would love ideas on that too!)

would love if y’all could share pics! I’m having a hard time finding kitchen pics that have this counter/backsplash combo.

these stools will be gone as soon as I can make them be gone 😬 def not my style.

First change all lighting to LEDs in 400K then at least colors will be true. The counters and backspalsh do not work with the floors or the cabinets now. Having cabinets painted properly is very expensive and I honestly do not think that kitchen as it is is worth spending the money on.You could improve storage and layout with new cabinets and just eat the price of new counters . I think a kitchen needs to work for you both in color and function and right now what you are planning is to work with something you don't like in a kitchen that could be better. My advice live here for at least 6 months , see how the space functions for you and then decide if you love it enough to keep it as is for function and storage. I do not like the counter backsplash combo myself and sure would not start my own decor with it. Just out of curiosity what is that fabric stuff in the doorway? Waht are the floors in the rest of the house? What is your budget for this ?

You could re-stain the cabinets a dark/espresso type color and it would look a lot better. You’ll probably want to add more lighting, like under cabinet lighting. That would be easier than painting the oak because if you want a smooth painted look then there’s a LOT that needs to be done with oak to achieve that.

It's what you like. That being said, you did ask for our opinion. If you want a beautiful beach kitchen, I think that I would pick counters that looked like sand and somewhere, on the walls or the tile a beautiful calm steely blue. I really like Socalthreems color on her walls. Your cabinets are beautiful and very elegant. I think that to honor them, you can add color, but it must be understated. I like the colors in this picture. I think they would look great in your kitchen. Remember, you can keep the kitchen colors calm (like a calm ocean) and you can add other color with accessories. I would try to make your base colors more timeless. Again, only my opinion. I just pictured a perfect backsplash. I calm glazed steely blue tile with a raise white glaze border that mimics the foam on the waves or maybe.....gee I can't even make up my mind for me...and I'm doing it for you? Thanks for the feedback guys....I truly appreciate the info. Not only are you all so knowledgeable about all this stuff, but it's great just to get others' opinions!! Whenever I post something, I sort of cross my fingers and hope that no one will reply back saying "what are you, crazy or something?!?!?" I just don't really know if my thoughts and ideas are feasible and make sense!! I also have a little situation where the hubby has a little bit of a hard time "seeing outside the box" so if I come up with something even slightly outside what he considers "normal," I have to be sure I can make a really good argument for it. He's always happy to ultimately go with my preferences, but I feel that I want him to understand and appreciate that I'm NOT talking crazy. (Perfect example: he was definitely set to go with the 4" backsplash as part of the countertop, rather than having the backsplash come all the way down to the horizontal surface of the countertop - I posted about it and you all were good enough to post pictures and opinions so that I could explain to him that either way was really fine.) Anyway, thanks again, and I'd certainly appreciate any other opnions or ideas you all can provide. SQ

Dark flooring shows dust, etc. In my remodel I am avoiding dark, and finally decided to go with a clear maple. Another consideration is that tile is very hard, and can be tough on your back if spend long hours cooking. I was very intrigued by rubber flooring, which is available in a lot of colors. Its soft, diverse, and quiet.

First for your own planning sake, you need to get your undercounter lights in if you are going to have them and you should try to turn off the flash in your camera, which is flattening how your kitchen looks. Second, I am not a granite person either, but I think it's worth your while to look at the pics of Positano's lovely kitchen. She does have Costa Esmeralda, but the green seems to be a very greyish olive and the pattern is subtle. Even if you don't like the stone, it will give you sense of what a polished surface in a medium tone would look like with cabinets, floors, and lighting conditions not dissimilar to yours. Your cabinets are beautiful, and I think when you get the lighting as you want it, you will find that you have lots of options for counters and backsplash. Best of luck. Haha you noticed! It’s a curtain for privacy purposes when we have guests (religious reasons). That doorway goes to the dining area (which can’t be seen from the pic) and (as you can see) the stairs.
The floors are the same throughout...opposite the kitchen (basically behind me in the pic) is the family room which is carpeted (and has no lighting 😬so we have floor lamps.)
budget is not something we’ve thought about yet really bc we just moved in but I do know that we will probably end up not doing anything atleast for a year so yeah I’ll be seeing how this space works for me quite a while!
If I’m being completely honest I’m just itching to get some changes done but what you’re saying is true, I should wait and see how I like it (or don’t).

And yes, the backsplash/counter combo isn’t the best. I personally think the backsplash is too busy looking with that counter... and I think the counter is lovely! But, it’s not awful either, just not the best.
