Countertop/Backsplash/Floor - Material Combo's

Ok - here's my latest thought:

I've come to the realization that I need some type of stained wood (or look of stained wood) in my kitchen to get the "feel" that I want (countryish/warm.)

I can see 2 scenerios I would like:

Countertop: Granite

Backsplash: Beadboard

Floor: Wood-look ceramic tile

Countertop: Wood

Backsplace: Tile

Floor: Ceramic tile

I think I'd be equally happy with either combination. The ticket will be the price. (Curse that silly budget!!)

Anyone have any thoughts or see any glaring errors in my thought process?

Which cabinet color did you choose? Either choice will look really good. I guess you know that that a tile floor will be colder and harder on your feet. Hardwood out of the question?

Ellendi - I am going with Sage with Coffee glaze, coupled with Chesapeake. Basically, a full bookcase type cabinet, my open shelves on the sink wall, and my peninsula in the Sage; and my full wall of "range" cabinets, the bottoms under the shelves, and what I am calling my "bar" (although it is not officially a bar) are all in the Chesapeake. That layout is based on the suggestion of the cabinet guy. If the pricing is higher than we hoped (changes to our original plan), I think I'm willing to forgo the glaze for the straight Sage color.

I wish I had an actual "layout" I could post. I think I'll get one this week and maybe I'll take a picture of it and post it here.

And yes, I do know that the tile will be physically colder and harder on the tootsies. That isn't an issue with me - I ALWAYS have my UGG slippers on in the house!! The things keeping me from the hardwood are the expense AND the additional upkeep.

I love Marble and am always thrilled when someone gets what they love despite the negative foolish talk. Good for you. Now polished next to honed is going to look Fantastic. I wish I had an image for you. I do have an image of Marble honed counters next to a polished subway marble backsplash. Perhaps this can show you what I mean. Keep in mind people use polished shiny surfaces next to honed, flat, matte surfaces all the time in kitchens. When you are using the same material there may be a tiny imperceptiable color difference but overall the effect will be magificent. I wish I had an upclose image of white marble honed next to polished for you. @A T Thanks for the recommendations! I hadn't considered Leathered granite, I do have some concerns on resale value with leathered as it is much less common, but will definitely look into it. The tile you suggested though is perfect! Thank you!! @la_la Girl I am open to making it all one level, but at this point planning to keep it different heights. My main concern is losing multiple outlets and that this opens directly into the living room. I kind of like the dual height from the perspective that it hides the mess in the kitchen (oops!), but I am definitely open to hearing reasons to take it down to one level! @acm Thanks for the input! You may be right, I could try painting the cabinets and then see how the granite looks before replacing. Since the butlers pantry is separated from the rest of the kitchen i have debated using that as my "test case" and painting the cabinets there to see how they look before getting into the rest of the kitchen.

My kitchen will have a raised bar that will be surfaced in wood and sealed. The perimeter countertops will have granite. I wanted the granite on my "workspace" because I believe it may hold up better. However, I liked the thought of the wood on the raised counter, because it doesn't get as much activity and I like the feel of it better if people are sitting up to it. It also saves a boatload of money because our granite surface area will be 42 sq. ft, as opposed to 72.

Wow this is tough. I love the look of your cabs with a
light granite even white marble but the idea of wood
is very exciting....

could imagine could be wood. I know the green is more
minty without the chocolate glaze. Just ideas....

A light green bases gray color that looks pretty with
a natural wood.

Just looking at these pics, I love the look of the wood countertop with the earthy-painted color of your cabinets. You could then do a light backsplash (in color, that is) Travertine, perhaps? Then mirror those colors into a tile for the floor to warm it up. I can't wait to see your finished product--I love the cabinet colors you chose!

Thanks for the feedback guys....I truly appreciate the info. Not only are you all so knowledgeable about all this stuff, but it's great just to get others' opinions!!

Whenever I post something, I sort of cross my fingers and hope that no one will reply back saying "what are you, crazy or something?!?!?" I just don't really know if my thoughts and ideas are feasible and make sense!! I also have a little situation where the hubby has a little bit of a hard time "seeing outside the box" so if I come up with something even slightly outside what he considers "normal," I have to be sure I can make a really good argument for it. He's always happy to ultimately go with my preferences, but I feel that I want him to understand and appreciate that I'm NOT talking crazy. (Perfect example: he was definitely set to go with the 4" backsplash as part of the countertop, rather than having the backsplash come all the way down to the horizontal surface of the countertop - I posted about it and you all were good enough to post pictures and opinions so that I could explain to him that either way was really fine.)

Anyway, thanks again, and I'd certainly appreciate any other opnions or ideas you all can provide.
