Hi! I'm a young 60 year old as well! Picture 1 - Instead of moving things around so you don't see the shoes, I would get a closed shoe rack. I agree with switching dining room with living room. Dark gray couch - I'd say no. You have mostly warm colors in this room, so try for a dark brown, dark olive green, or other warm color for the couch. Picture 5 - for the visiting grandson - be sure everything is child proof - no wood edges to crash into - instead of coffee table in wood, metal or glass, how about a round ottoman? You can always put a tray on top of the ottoman if you want to serve drinks. Also think about knick knacks - nothing in glass, or anything that can be tipped over - short and squatty is better than tall and narrow.

Living Room Layout Does this layout make sense. It defines your foyer area from the Living Area. IMO the mirrored doors are a distraction and I would replace with 6 panel doors.

Are you prepared to repaint the pinky wall the owners left you with???

Kitchen Layout with table and chairs and perhaps a storage or display cabinet depending on spacing.

I know that you don't want to hear this but now is the time to paint over all the Golden Oak. Looks like you have a nice space, rather contemporary in design, but the Golden Oak really dates it. I would paint out the trim, restain the floors and if funds allow, paint the kitchen cabinets before you are moved in so deep it's too painful to do.

Beverly...yes, entry livingroom furniture placement was exactly what I was thinking. The wall color is actually a BMoore light beige (smokey taupe?) and darker shade accent walls, so NO pinky undertone. Thank goodness, painted last year.

I agree in painting out the oak door trim around the mirrored closet doors & garage entry door. Weird cause window trims are all off white! Would you suggest painting the baseboards? Off white as window trim?

For now we might just cover the mirrored doors with D-C Fix self adhesive film until we find replacement doors.

The light oak floors look like honey oak on the monitor but they are a light natural. No stain, no shine. They are NOT my favorite, but the current owners sanded them down & clear coated them kind of velvet sheen last year. At least they are not honey oak stained glossy. We currently have dark stained white oak (love, love them). We are going to work with the floors & use furniture, area rugs etc.....greys, beige, colors....to bring a more modern feel.

Love to change kitchen cabinets to dark walnut and drawers, we will live with them and decide if we'll paint, redoor, or replace....that's when the Quartz will come in. Pretty sure our modern dark wood dining set will fit under the light/skylights.

Do you agree that stainless steel appliances will provide a major modernization?

Ok, bought furniture & new entrance closet doors. Still have to (try) and paint out gold chandelier & wall sconces-maybe oil bronze. Now for the tv/family room furniture purchase. Chairs seen are our deck chairs :( waited 9 weeks for living room furniture.
